About Arcadia Home:
Founded by Dawn Kikel in 2001, Arcadia Home creates eco-friendly, artisan-made home and holiday decor that is as individual as the artist who makes itand the customer who chooses it. But while each piece is a work of art, all are meant to be lived with and enjoyed, not kept behind glass and admired from afar. Recently, Arcadia Home was commissioned to create Christmas tree skirts and a special Christmas stocking for the White House. They created three heirloom tree skirts, one of sustainable hand-felted wool and two of hand-beaded silk with recycled glass beading, and a stocking of hand-felted wool for the First Dog.
To celebrate their 10-year anniversary, Arcadia Home became a member of 1% for the Planet, pledging to donate at least 1% of their annual sales to environmental causes. Now, every Arcadia Home product purchased not only supports artisans in various countries around the world but also supports the important work environmental groups are doing to make the planet safer, healthier, and happier.
About the felt:
Arcadia Home's unique eco-friendly felt designs are hand felted, hand appliquéd and 100% wool. They are created by a group of artisans in the Rajasthan State of India, carrying on a long-held tradition in that region of the world that had been threatened by the advent of modern technology (handmade felt has been used for hundreds of years as a simple floor covering in traditional Indian homes but recently has been replaced by the widespread availability of inexpensive rugs). Today, by partnering with Arcadia Home, traditional felt artisans, sheepherders, and seamstresses have been able to preserve their art while sustaining their families and benefitting their entire community. Because of their efforts, these artisans were recognized by the Indian government and awarded the honor of "Best Innovation in Crafts for International Markets" based on the Christmas items they produced for Arcadia Home.
