Resolutions can be ridiculous! Losing weight, going to the gym regularly, powering off more often, eating more healthfully.... Come on, you don't need a calendar change for incentive. If you're serious, walk the walk - enough of the talk! Self-improvement is a 365-day-a-year proposal, not an annual pronouncement of intentions. I am embracing projects of passion as I forge into "15." Here's where I'm headed for a happier new year.
I'm sure you think I'm going to suggest wardrobe style supplements you can't live without - wrong! We'll explore everything that took Spring runways by storm - including The New Bohemians and the '70s style reinvention - very soon. Now, let's get back to my New Year's announcement (far more conviction than a resolution, don't you think?). My mantra: Acquire Art! And lots of it! This 2015, I will continue my quest to cull the art communities I encounter, uncovering some of the emerging talents of tomorrow.
It doesn't matter if your taste is Renoir or Rothko, Warhol or Wohl, Picasso or Jack Pierson. Support creativity so the phrase "starving artist" sounds old-fashioned. I declare 2015 as the year to fill your walls, your heart, and your soul with beautiful, bold, thought-provoking and perhaps, occasionally controversial creations that come from the next generation of genius. Besides, there is nothing as sad as an empty wall (another lesson I learned from my mother and a sentiment she holds to this day).
What could be more enjoyable and rewarding in the coming year than discovering new places, meeting new faces, and supporting the dreams of tomorrow's Twombly or Tamayo? Curating a collection of works by artists I love for the absolute sheer beauty they bring to my life is a journey that gives me great joy. I'm so inspired that I may break out the oils and take to the canvas myself! I welcome you to join me in my pursuit of the next generation of painters, sculptors, photographers, and performers among us. Or, take a different approach and adopt a dog, consider a kitty, plant trees in a community park, build a playground where laughter will live, mentor a musician - give back and you'll get back!
Projects of passion can become an investment in forever - not just for the coming year. Encourage and inspire while you acquire, and make this a new year of new traditions.
