In His Shoes
An exclusive Q&A with Stuart Weitzman
We chatted with Stuart Weitzman about his inspirations for the spring collection, the making of the campaign, and the intimate relationship between a woman and her shoes.
What influenced your design process for spring?
"I'm inspired by everything around me. I believe creativity can be sparked by the simplest details. But this season's collection took inspiration from the '70s, leading me to design thicker heels and variations in platforms with palettes of rich suede."
What's the must-have style of the season?
"Lace-ups or shoes with an ankle strap."
What message do you hope the campaign conveys?
"That women empower women."
What's the relationship between a woman's sense of empowerment and her shoes?
"Nothing is universal. But since Cinderella found her guy with a pair of shoes, women have gained the confidence to conquer the world with the right pair."
What qualities do you find most attractive in a woman?
"Intelligence and wit."
If you were a shoe, what kind would you be?
Style or trend in footwear you'd like to see go away and never come back?
"The man sandal."
