Pillows and Pottery with Jonathan Adler

From squirrel letter openers to fuzzy ottomans to zodiac coasters, potter-turned-designer Jonathan Adler specializes in all things psychedelic and cheerful for the home. Recently, Adler took a break from throwing pots to talk throw pillows, specifically his newest needlepoint stitch, bargello.

 

Post pillow talk, Adler sat down at the pottery wheel and showed us first hand his passion at work.

London Fashion Week, Fall/Winter 2012

London Fashion Week has blossomed from the industry stepchild to the It Girl of fashion weeks. Burberry Prorsum, Erdem, McQ Alexander McQueen, Issa London, Christopher Kane and Mary Katrantzou all showed this week. Tom Ford held private appointments. I’ve been trying to keep up with Ken Downing here for four packed days. Speaking of it girls, I’ve seen Alexa Chung’s haircut on heads all over town. Another beauty note: “tattooed” eyelids, with points clearly drawn on the outer corners of the upper lids. You heard it here.

Bowtie Guy Edward Armah Comes Full Circle

“It was me, my bow tie and my pocket handkerchief,” Edward Armah says reminiscing the days he worked on the floor at NM Short Hills, in New Jersey.

It was a decade ago and the sartorially savvy Ghana native had just moved from London to the United States. With dreams of breaking into the fashion industry, Armah landed a gig at NM selling shirts, ties and accessories.

“I was getting into a department with big sharks, guys that had worked there for 15 to 20 years,” Armah says of his days at the store. “Stepping into the department, I needed to distinguish myself from every other person.”

His colorful handmade bowties and pocket squares became his trademark.
