Scent o’ The Irish

Creed

Green Irish Tweed

For a lucky few, the scent of St. Patrick’s Day is not just spilled beer. Creed presented the grand marshals of St. Patrick’s Day parades in Manhattan, Chicago and Boston with bottles of Green Irish Tweed, the famed sandalwood, ambergris, verbena and iris blend. Bestselling author and Manhattan parade grand marshal Mary Higgins Clark, Chicago mayor and grand marshal Richard M. Daley, and Boston grand marshal John Zebris received the gifts. Clark penned a thank-you note that will become part of Creed’s 251-year archive. Fun fact: she’s the top selling fiction author in France.

Nailing The Spring Color Trend

Nail Color

Chanel "Orange Fizz," Le Metier de Beaute "Mango Tango," Deborah Lippmann "Delovely," Estee Lauder "Hot Coral."

One of the simplest and most affordable ways to update your look for spring is with nail polish. Neiman Marcus believes in the coral/tangerine color range this season, big time. If you only want to dip your pretty toe or finger into the trend, here’s a smart way. Shop nail color.

Dress Man: Don O’Neill of Theia

Theia

Don O'Neill

If you have bought an evening dresses at Neiman Marcus in the past couple of years, there’s a significant chance that Ireland-born Don O’Neill was the creative mind behind it. O’Neill trained alongside Christian Lacroix in the couture studio, before moving to New York. He was creative designer of Carmen Marc Valvo for 10 years, then went on to Badgley Mischka to launch their platinum label until two years ago, when he decided to launch his own collection, Theia. Named after the Greek goddess of sight and heavenly light, Theia has gained attention from celebrities including Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Emmy Rossum.

NM: What is your favorite trend right now?

DO: I love that the emergence of so many new, amazing, and wonderfully talented designers, with so many points of view, almost renders trends irrelevant. They provide freedom of expression so that people can be unique, wear what they love, and feel great about themselves.

The Way of Flowers

Last weekend, in spite of a tsunami that swelled Hawaii’s shores on Friday, Neiman Marcus Ala Moana and Honolulu’s Sogetsu Ikebana School celebrated art, fashion and flowers in an elegant exhibition called “Journey Through Paradise…and Beyond.”

The Sogetsu Ikebana philosophy, explained sensei (teacher) Linda Hamasaki, is based on the belief that flowers are beautiful in nature and man cannot compete with that beauty, but when you cut a flower you bring new life to it, infusing the blossom with the floral artist’s spirit. By communicating with the flower, she said, “You can create something new and give the flower material new life.”

Georgia May Jagger: It’s In The Jeans

Georgia May Jagger The Grand Hotel in Paris has been a nexus of opulence from Napoleonic times right through the circus of the Balmain Fall 2011 show, held here and attended by Kanye West, just hours prior. Yet it’s where we encountered Georgia May Jagger—at ease and barefoot in jeans and a vintage T-shirt she has owned since age 12—to discuss her new role as the face and design collaborator of Hudson Jeans. There are a half-dozen hip Paris hotels you’d sooner expect a Chanel model/rock royal/denim designer to crash, but classic luxury is Jagger’s element.

Fresh off a shoot for French magazine Jalouse, she is prepping for her next appearance, a party at Montaigne Market to launch her capsule collection for Hudson. Signing on with the label was a career defining moment for the budding designer. Together with Hudson’s head designer and creative director Ben Taverniti, her eponymous line of five styles in black, white, gray and blue washes, with a skinny leg and a mid-rise, launches at Neiman Marcus next week. The styles are named for members of her famous family.

The Eyes of Robert Rodriguez

Robert RodriguezKnown for the exceptional tailoring and finishing he brings to his contemporary line, Robert Rodriguez has become an editorial and celebrity favorite. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he received the prestigious Critics Award for Best Designer of the Year, Rodriguez went on to create his eponymous collection. We caught up with the Angeleno at Neiman Marcus’ Fashion Rules party in Dallas, where Rodriguez showcased his Spring collection.

NM: Could you tell me about the Spring collection you are presenting today?

RR:  Spring is really Seventies glam.  I was inspired by the Seventies movie, The Eyes of Laura Mars, with Faye Dunaway.  In the movie she plays a fashion photographer, and there are all these great, soft-focus fashion shoots and models. So the collection is flowy, breezy, and soft with a slight Moroccan influence.  There are wide-leg pants and lots of white with gold accents and a pop of color that I call ocean, which is a vivid cerulean blue, and bright orange against a mostly neutral palette of camel, white, and black.
