Bobbi Brown’s philosophy that makeup should be real, approachable and simple resonates with women worldwide. Now the makeup guru’s mantra materializes in her Tailored Collection, an office-appropriate palette exclusive to Neiman Marcus. Whether you’re getting ready for the day in the carpool lane or making touch-ups on your lunch break, The Tailored Collection simplifies the sometimes overwhelming and time consuming task of applying makeup.
Valentino, Before and After
I enjoyed the company of Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli before and after their tour de force of a Fall 2011 show. It’s such a privilege to visit the atelier in Paris and see all the artisans creating such exquisite beauty. I can’t wait to host Maria Grazia and Pierpaolo in Dallas next month for Crystal Charity.

Valentino is available on NeimanMarcus.com and in Neiman Marcus stores.
Where to Eat in Capri
If you’re ever in Naples, say, visiting the Kiton factory, a day trip to Capri is a must. Kiton CEO Antonio De Matteis, who makes a second home on the island, steered us to Torre Saracena for a spectacular view and seafood that couldn’t have been any fresher.
-
The northern side of Capri faces the mainland. The ferries deposit everyone at Marina Grande. -
Torre Saracena is nestled into Marina Piccola, on the lightly trafficked south side of the island. -
The chef showed us a blue lobster. -
Clams in crudo. -
These small shrimp are edible in their entirety. -
Fish in crudo. -
Cheese ravioli. -
Pasta with clams, now cooked. -
The main course, served family style. -
The dining area overhangs a tiny secluded beach. -
Our superlative host, Kiton's Antonio De Matteis.
Givenchy Dahlia Noir, Baccarat Edition
Givenchy has launched Dahlia Noir, artistic director Riccardo Tisci’s first fragrance, exclusively at Neiman Marcus. But if you want the most exclusive of the exclusive, look no further than this $1500, limited edition Baccarat Bottle.
Dorothee Boeuf-Hennequin, the marketing director for Parfums Givenchy in the U.S., says Baccarat, the legendary fine crystal maker founded in 1764, was asked by Givenchy to create a completely crystal bottle based on the Fabien Baron-designed Dahlia Noir bottle. The dagger-shaped cap looks black. However, it is not possible to create completely black crystal. (N’existe pas, and neither do black dahlias, for that matter.) The dagger cap is actually an extremely deep, dark red, and was created to pay homage to the forgotten gesture of delicately applying fine perfume with a crystal cap.
My Summer Vacation: Roopal Patel
When I’m not traveling for work, I love to spend long weekends at my family’s home in the Hamptons. We’ve been going since I was 10 years old. I love it because it is extremely laid back. I enjoy taking long naps, going on bike rides, reading books and cooking seafood with my family. On Saturdays we take a trip to the Farmer’s Market and check out the homemade ice cream shops.
Introducing Givenchy Dahlia Noir With Riccardo Tisci
Any time I meet a woman who has never put Givenchy on her body before, I introduce her first to the romantic chiffon blouses with the ruffles, which are such a Givenchy nod, but in the hands of artistic director Riccardo Tisci, so unlike anything that Monsieur Givenchy ever did. Now Riccardo has released his first fragrance, Dahlia Noir. It is an enormous tribute to his love of women and his love of the romantic, but also his love of the mystery that every woman holds. And my sense is that women will be wearing this fragrance 120 years from now. It’s truly brilliant. I couldn’t wait to discuss it with Riccardo in New York.
KD: As you know, we’re launching Givenchy Dahlia Noir exclusively at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. And we’re huge fans. Our customers love what you do with ready-to-wear, and they love your bag collection and what you do with shoes. And I was so excited to find out a little history of the fragrance because it’s so much of what you’ve brought to the DNA of Givenchy.
RT: It’s very personal, this fragrance.
Ken Downing’s Bordeaux for Le Métier de Beauté
Ken Downing and Le Métier de Beauté have done it again! When the Neiman Marcus fashion director and the beauty brand teamed up for Spring, the resulting Ken’s Koral — a universally flattering, exclusive shade of summery orange-red — was a runaway hit. But for Fall things are moving towards the deep end of the rouge color spectrum, to a most sophisticated range that Neiman Marcus likes to call Bordeaux. So, after a successful foray into beauty, our sommelier of style returned to the Le Métier de Beauté color lab to concoct a new collection for a new season, a trio of Bordeaux lipstick and nail lacquer pairings.
Where to Eat in Naples
Maybe you’ve heard stories implying Naples isn’t the most tourist-friendly city. But to visit Naples as a guest of Kiton, guided by CEO Antonio de Matteis, is to experience hospitality in the extreme. The first thing you’ll appreciate is how beautifully situated the city is, on the azure Gulf of Naples (where the cherished red coral blooms,) near the base of Mt.Vesuvio. The city bears the weight of millennia, buoyed by everyday bustle and density. And the food! Famous as the birthplace of pizza, Naples boasts outstanding seafood. The mozzarella alone is worth the journey.
-
For a light, picturesque lunch with seaside ambience we headed to La Scialuppa (the lifeboat) on the marina of Castel dell’Ovo, a castle attached to the coast by a causeway crowded with newlyweds. -
At La Scialuppa we had pezzonia, a local line-caught fish, with Caprese salad and melone e prosciutto. Perfetto. -
For that famous Neapolitan pizza we hit Da Ciro a Mergellina. Dessert that night — and every night thereafter because it was in season — was fragoline di bosco, tiny wild strawberries, usually with vanilla gelato or lemon sorbetto. -
De Matteis’ family has dined at Ristorante Europeo di Mattozzi for generations. Every pasta dish was a symphony of regional, seasonal flavor. But the biggest revelation? Grilled artichokes, eaten by hand. -
De Matteis called Da Dora “the best seafood in Naples.” Hidden and cozy, it did not disappoint. -
With a tiny kitchen somehow turning out countless grilled, steamed and fried seafood courses, Da Dora put us into orbit, in the end… -
...with chocolate profiteroles.

Inside Kiton, Part II: Facing the Future of Neapolitan Tailoring
Yesterday we marveled at the Neapolitan tailoring traditions upheld at Kiton. Today we examine how Kiton ensures its survival. CEO Antonio De Matteis succeeded his uncle, the revered Kiton founder Ciro Paone, in 2007. Despite the economic difficulty of the ensuing years, De Matteis has overseen a handful of ambitious projects to extend the family-owned brand without compromising its quality. First, it acquired Carlo Barbera, one of Italy’s most prestigious fabric mills.
Review: Kate Somerville KateCeuticals Multi-Active Repair
Everyone has heard, by now, that it’s never too early to begin the skin repair process. The toll of day-to-day sun exposure, chemicals from makeup and makeup removal can add up before you realize. But with the range of products available today it can be difficult to differentiate. That’s why I hesitated to add another product to my daily routine. To be honest, KateCeuticals Multi-Active Repair Lifting & Lineless Eye and Face Cream sounded like products my mother would seek out. However, after several weeks of including Kate Somerville‘s new creams in my AM and PM routine, I can honestly say my skin looks brighter and feels tighter. The instant tightening after each application is a favorite effect, and the eye cream brightens after a long day.
