Prada, Spring/Summer 2012, Milan Fashion Week

Foam cars that doubled as seating dotted the floor at the Prada show space. With 1950′s references, this show was lady-chic meets pin-up girl at the drag races! First look: a pale blue lace eyelet car coat with solid back topped a powder blue full pleated skirt and a bra top. Red patent shoes had drag racer flames. Double handled lady bags completed the look. Car coats in unusual color mixes, pleated front blouses, pleated lace skirts and Fifties swim suits were key items. Race car motifs…roses…flames. An emerald green trench with rhinestone embellished shoulders with a race car on the back was spectacular! The final coat was embroidered with coral roses on taupe heavy satin. Feminine, embellished, flattering and pretty! A great collection!

Fendi, Spring/Summer 2012, Milan Fashion Week

Italian Riviera. Life in a Maserati with an Italian playboy. Windswept bouffant, oversized sunglasses, summer cotton suits in relaxed shapes. Mixed strap shoes. There were many perforated details on peep toe shoes, ready-to-wear such as a perforated suede trench, and perforated handbags in mixed media of leather and suede. Raffia, which is everywhere, was a trim with beads on short cocktail dress. Colorful seed beads with a slightly tribal look decorated evening clutches. This was Karl Lagerfeld in summertime mode.

Gucci, Spring/Summer 2012

At Gucci, Frida Giannini’s theme was Hard Deco and the collection boasted Jazz Age, Art Deco motifs and references—flappers, tuxedos, the Chrysler Building! Graphic mixes of black, white, gold and silver with the jolt of kelly green graphic. Drop waist dresses are seen throughout the collection. Many cropped boxy jackets topping tuxedo trousers. Diagonal fringed leather, beading, and chain details. Mixed animal prints were very chic—leopard, giraffe and zebra.

Introducing Todd Snyder, On His Own

Todd Snyder, Fall 2011

Todd Snyder, the founder of his namesake men’s line, once received this advice: “Work for the best.” Since those four words of wisdom were uttered, he’s worked for Ralph Lauren and J. Crew. When he turned 40, he took a leap of faith and ventured onto his own, launching a line of classic pieces for the modern man.

Conversation With: David Meister, Dress Master

David Meister

Neiman Marcus: David, how is this season different than past seasons?

David Meister: Sleeves are a a big trend.  It’s not about covering up, it’s just another look that people young and old haven’t worn in a while.  The key to wearing sleeves and being covered is having skin at the neckline, or maybe it’s an open back.  Another big trend this season is the asymmetrical hemline, which will continue into Spring.

NM: What do you consider your greatest professional success?

DM: Starting my business 13 years ago and being able to maintain it and watch it consistently grow.

Burberry Prorsum, Spring/Summer 2012

A palette of plum, cranberry, teal, russet, olive, mustard and tobacco with a multicultural tribal vibe was the message that Christopher Bailey sent down the runway at Burberry Prorsum. Rafia trenches were decorated with tribal embroidery. Anoraks, which are everywhere, looked to be fur trimmed, but actually had rafia fringe to mimic fur. Models carried colorblocked bags with braided and woven trim. The pleated chiffon dresses that have become Christopher’s signature came in acid green and jewel shades. Wide rafia and embellished belts added to the theme.

Chantecaille Women Talk Natural Beauty

Sylvie and Alex Chantecaille

Two of the three Chantecaille women, mom Sylvie and daughter Alex, opted out of the New York Fashion Week madness in favor of the slower paced environment of Fort Worth, Texas. But, when Sylvie Chantecaille is in the building, even in the middle of a Friday afternoon, she draws in quite the crowd. And the presence of the Chantecailles elicits one skin success story after another.

“I just had a woman who is waiting on a level four liver transplant. Over the last year she has been using us, and said her health is better and her skin is unbelievably better,” says Chantecaillle Creator Sylvie Chantecaillle. “Her Neiman Marcus sales person came to me after and said, ‘you have no idea the difference in her skin that she has seen since she has used you.’ ”

It’s moments like these with clients that constantly motivate Sylvie and her girls.

Beauty Review: Guerlain Orchidée Imperiale Longevity Concentrate

Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale Longevity Concentrate

Guerlain Orchidée Imperiale Longevity Concentrate

A lot can happen in decade, particularly as it relates to skin. Wrinkles and imperfections suddenly come to the fore and the skin changes in ways we may not have anticipated. Coincidentally, a decade is also the amount of time it took the expert team at Guerlain to develop a new serum that works to turn back cellular time more powerfully than any other Guerlain component.

The feat started with the orchid, which Guerlain has mastered in its 180-plus years in the beauty business. They set out to improve the legendary and beloved Orchidée Imperiale creams and to break new ground in the field of longevity. In doing so they created Orchidée Imperiale Longevity Concentrate, which uses the power of three distinctive orchids (hand picked from 30,000 other choice blooms) to accomplish the lofty goals of smoothing and tightening the skin, reducing wrinkles, improving firmness and radiance and creating a finer and more even skin texture.
