The south of France for the 2011 Resort Book — pourquoi pas? Neiman Marcus senior art director Lori Stadig, fashion photographer Alistair Taylor Young and their crew were up to the task of setting the colorful and dynamic Resort collections against the Old World charm and seaside rusticity of the Cote d’Azur. In August they set up camp in Nice and proceeded to shoot on the fortress of St. Tropez, in the streets of Villefranche-sur-Mer, on the waters off Cannes, a house in Antibes and another house north of Monaco. See the final shots in the Resort Book, on NeimanMarcus.com now. (If you miss it, you can download it on NM Editions for iPad.)

Diamond in the Rough December Dates

Diamond in the Rough Iceberg ring
When you think of a diamond, you likely picture a polished princess cut. (Or cushion, or emerald, or brilliant…) However, before tools take on the precious jewel, diamonds are unclear and inconsistently shaped. This state of the stone is exactly what caught the eye of Daniel Eskapa, who first spotted the natural beauties when he was a child traveling in Africa. His enchantment with the gemstone’s unconventional cuts prompted him to start a jewelry collection, Diamonds in the Rough, with his diamond-loving best friend Anjanette Sinesio. Diamond in the Rough features just that – uncut, unpolished and unenhanced diamonds juxtaposed with polished diamonds, platinum and 18k yellow gold.

Blogger Love at First Swipe, With Refinery29
We want to thank our friends at the shopping blog Refinery29 for rounding up a few of our favorite style bloggers to promote Neiman Marcus’ new acceptance of Visa and MasterCard. (Yes it’s true, as of November 1.) Chicago’s Anna Jane Derkin of the blog See Jane, New York City’s Christina Topacio of ProFresh Style, LA’s Julie Sariana of Sincerely Jules and San Francisco’s Taylor Sterling of Sterling Style teamed up with editors of Refinery29 to test their credit limits at their local NM stores. We got a huge kick out of seeing what caught their attention and how they put it all together. The credit, or shall we say style, report? Pops of color, prints and loads of personality. Click to see all four sponsored posts on Refinery29.

Anna Jane Derkin of See Jane holds a Diane Von Furstenburg clutch at Neiman Marcus Northbrook.

Mario Batali Keeps it Simple With “Molto Batali” Cookbook
Mario Batali is a culinary Renaissance man. From operating close to 20 restaurants internationally, to hosting the daily talk show, “The Chew,” to scouring the globe for new locations for his mega-shop Eataly, it’s a wonder he ever has time to sit down and write a book — let alone nine of them. His most recent cooking tome, “Molto Batali,” explores the sort of meals Batali eats with his family, with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients.
On Thursday, December 1, Mario Batali will hold a public book signing at Neiman Marcus in Short Hills, New Jersey.
The Short Hills store is also supporting The Mario Batali Foundation for children’s wellbeing with a private event beforehand. But first, Batali takes a moment to talk tomatoes, television and what’s ahead. (China?!)

Maison Francis Kurkdjian For Men, Women and Children
“Upon each new meeting, an emotion is grafted with people or places,” says Parisian perfumer Francis Kurkdjian. Kurkdjian has created fragrances for the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, Lanvin and Narcisco Rodriguez and collaborated with renowned artists to create extravagant olfactory installations. After spending time in New York, Kurkdjian composed a perfume (the scent of a dollar bill passed from hand to hand) for artist Sophie Calle, and presented it at the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art. He later transformed the basin of the Orangerie of Versailles into a giant fluorescent and perfumed orange. Since 2009 Kurkdjian has created sophisticated perfumes under his own line – Maison Francis Kurkdjian.

One designer to defy the odds also overcame childhood abandonment and homelessness to pursue his ultimate dream of showing his collection at New York Fashion Week. Nary Manivong, the self-taught designer, is today designing Nahm, the collection of contemporary dresses he launched with Ally Hilfiger, daughter of Tommy Hilfiger. (Nahm is an acronym of the partners’ initials.)
