London Fashion Week has blossomed from the industry stepchild to the It Girl of fashion weeks. Burberry Prorsum, Erdem, McQ Alexander McQueen, Issa London, Christopher Kane and Mary Katrantzou all showed this week. Tom Ford held private appointments. I’ve been trying to keep up with Ken Downing here for four packed days. Speaking of it girls, I’ve seen Alexa Chung’s haircut on heads all over town. Another beauty note: “tattooed” eyelids, with points clearly drawn on the outer corners of the upper lids. You heard it here.

A fashion fairytale — from Neiman Marcus sales associate to designer, stocked by Neiman Marcus.
Edward Armah
“It was me, my bow tie and my pocket handkerchief,” Edward Armah says reminiscing the days he worked on the floor at NM Short Hills, in New Jersey.
It was a decade ago and the sartorially savvy Ghana native had just moved from London to the United States. With dreams of breaking into the fashion industry, Armah landed a gig at NM selling shirts, ties and accessories.
“I was getting into a department with big sharks, guys that had worked there for 15 to 20 years,” Armah says of his days at the store. “Stepping into the department, I needed to distinguish myself from every other person.”
His colorful handmade bowties and pocket squares became his trademark.
The Fall/Winter 2012 collections hit the runway for only a few minutes, but you can catch the action all season long on the Neiman Marcus YouTube Channel.
Models embellished in jewels and crystals, embroidered in lace and tweed, and fluffed in feathers and tulle paraded down Oscar de la Renta‘s ultra-feminine Fall 2012 runway. Oscar’s statement accessory for Spring was the earring; for Fall it’s the headband.
The Vera Wang Fall show started out soft. Buff and beige led to pops of bright orange, which then preceded into black and gray. The queen of bridal walked artful kaleidoscope patterned dresses, screen-printed sheer separates, and charcoal wool capes down her ready-to-wear runway.
Ralph Lauren revisited the grandiose life of the English countryside for his Fall collection, even using the Downton Abbey theme song. Rich fabrics (tweed, houndstooth, golds, plaids), traditional tailoring (three piece suits, jodhpur pants, smoking jackets) and lavish accessories (crocodile bags, top hats, exotic plumes) appeared old and new.
Calvin Klein
Francisco Costa’s Fall collection for Calvin Klein catered to the clean-cut minimalist woman. Models donning blunt black bobs and slick ponytails darted down the runway in full leather skirts, cinched waists, and collarless wool jackets.

Michael Kors opened his Fall 2012 show with a couple wearing checks. The rugged yet elegant take on tartan plaid then led to more cozy cabin-chic pieces like cashmere sweater dresses, blanket cardigans, and winterized accessories like shearling-wrappped satchels, fox-fur collars and thick knit ski socks. The collection closed with smiling models (a runway rarity and a Kors signature), sequin gowns, and metallic sandals.
Futuristic models made their way down a smoke filled runway at the 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2012 show. The strong super-hero-esque collection featured modern minimalist separates – knee length coats and geometric print knits – in monochromatic hues.
For Fall 2012, Olivier Theyskens continues to meld his taste for fashion-forward design with Theory’s staples, essentials for every wardrobe. Leather skirts, slouchy trousers and a dark take on sheer cruised down the runway looking cool and current.
Jerrell's ruffled blouse, full skirt and Queen of Hearts hair keep him safe.
Michael's look, which Angela says looks like "the Chiquita banana woman."
Kara's look, not extravagant enough for the character, gets her eliminated.
Austin's look was a nod to Marie Antoinette.
This recap of Project Runway All Stars contains spoilers! Stop reading if you don’t want to know who won or lost last night. The remaining PRAS crew heads to the Circle in The Square Theater on Broadway. “The world of theater is a world of imagination, a world of illusion, and a world of fantasy, and all of those things excite me,” Austin says giddy with excitement and anticipation. Host Angela takes the stage and asks, “Who doesn’t love a good Broadway show?” This week’s challenge revolves around the musical Godspell. The show’s composer Stephen Schwartz, the music man behind Broadway hits including Wicked, walks on stage and reveals that the 7 designers will be designing a costume for one of his leading ladies, actress Uzo Aduba. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the musical, the designers will create a look for an ostentatious, wealthy female character who steals from everyone, even the poor. It’s a separates challenge, as the broadway character will be dressed piece by piece in a number on stage. This week’s winner will not only have their look featured in the production, but their bio will be printed in the playbill. “It’s pretty freakin’ major,” Mondo comments.
