Roksanda Illincic, Fall 2011, London
Glamour and comfort don’t always go together, but Roksanda Illincic is known for both. Michelle Obama wore a coat and beaded wool satin dress from Illincic’s Fall 2010 collection to meet the Chinese president Hu Jintao in January. Illincic’s Fall 2011 collection had her trademark, fluid evening dresses saturated with color like precious gems. But she also showed sportier pieces for day, and draped dresses that could take the cool girl from day to evening with effortless panache.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Fall 2011
What better place for the queen of subversive fashion to show than London’s Royal Courts of Justice? The carnival atmosphere and eccentric audience at Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label show complemented the madcap British-ness of her clothes and gave an anti-establishment jab to the old-school solemnity of the Royal Courts. The younger Red Label collection was a cacophony of pattern, styles and influences inspired by Portobello Market.

Actress Tilda Swinton, fashion muse, face of Pringle of Scotland.
Pringle of Scotland has been creating knitwear since the 1870’s, but the fall collection was a thoroughly modern take on its extensive archives and history. The luxurious show incorporated a very British palette of russet reds and petrol blues, with lots of texture in reinterpreted jacquards, cables and Fair Isles.

The neutral palette of champagne, cream, gold, and black with shots of red and cinnamon in luxurious satin, silk, beading, and lace gave opulence to the elongated silhouettes of draped satin dresses and flowing evening jumpsuits.
