In search of visual inspiration? Or simply a tan? Head to sunny Miami Beach December 6-9 for Art Basel Miami, America’s premier contemporary and modern art fair. The event will be celebrating its 11th anniversary as the stateside sister to the original, founded in Basel, Switzerland, in 1970.

Over 260 international galleries—both new and established—will be in attendance to show the works of thousands of artists. New-to-the-scene names will show alongside the highly acclaimed, in special exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos, and public art projects.

Among the galleries and museum installations, you’ll find curated showcases like Art Nova, a section designated for artists’ freshest work from the past three years; Art Public, a performance art event at Collins Park; and Art Salon and Art Basel Conversations, featuring panel discussions and dialogues among artists, collectors, curators and other leading figures on the international art scene.

And you wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to party and brush shoulders with anyone from Ai Weiwei to Kanye West. Not to mention the best people-watching this side of Paris Fashion Week.

During Art Basel, the NM Bal Harbour store is throwing its own international art party. On December 4 from 2 to 4 pm, London-based shoe designer Charlotte Olympia and a mystery artist will be hand-painting her Dolly platform pump in the shoe salon. The one-of-a-kind pieces will be sold at a private event that night, but a limited edition of about 40 pre-painted shoes will be available for pre-order.

Living: Rosewood Fragrance Butler

Living: Rosewood Fragrance Butler

The art of traveling is about soaking up a city and all its distinct flavors, sights and sounds. Now Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is bringing a luxury twist to taking in its scents as well – one that doesn’t require leaving your room. At nine Rosewood properties, simply ring for the fragrance butler and a white-gloved attendant will arrive with a silver tray holding ten fragrances specifically chosen to suit the city and its guests.  Try one, or as many as you like. You can even change from day to dinner.

The Carlyle in New York showcases scents reflective of its “elegant, old-world feel,” such as Hérmes Eau des Merveilles and Tom Ford for Men. At the Mansion on Turtle Creek, the feminine Givenchy Dahlia Noir and Prada Candy express Dallas’s Southern charm. And by the San Francisco Bay, Rosewood Sand Hill has partnered with the organic fragrance company Anje to create California woods, an exclusive scent with base notes of the area’s native rose and oak moss.

“Rosewood has always prided itself on offering special signature services that make a guest’s stay more like a journey and less like travel,” says Rosewood VP Ralph Aruzza. The fragrance butler gives guests “what they need before they even recognize the need for it.” And, we might add, leaves one less thing to pack.

The Carlyle, a Rosewood hotel in New York City, recommends:

How It’s Made: La Mer Miracle Broth

Vancouver Island

The beauty-savvy know that when the La Mer team calls with “big news,” you should come right away. So we headed to Vancouver, BC to get the first look at their newest launch, The Moisturizing Soft Cream, and see firsthand where they harvest the sea kelp used in the Miracle Broth, the signature formula used in all Crème de la Mer products.

La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream

La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream

Moisturizing Soft Cream or Creme Soyeuse is La Mer’s fifth formulation of its legendary Crème de la Mer. Like the original, Soft Cream contains the powerful Miracle Broth and Lime Tea Extracts that leave skin feeling healthier, firmer, smoother, and more hydrated. The difference is in its texture.

“The goal was to make something that felt really rich on the skin, and yet was weightless,” explains VP of Research and Development Andy Bevacqua. The brains behind La Mer’s beauty, Bevacqua utilized advanced absorption technologies to ensure the new cream is not only light and luxurious, but effectively delivers the Miracle Broth’s nutrients and antioxidants. How does it work? Skin-mimicking lipids are layered between hydrating emollients to create multilayered spheres that can be easily absorbed by your skin. (Simple, right?)

New at NM: Lanvin Anniversary Collection

To celebrate his 10 year anniversary at the helm of Lanvin, Alber Elbaz has designed a limited-edition capsule collection, “Happy” Les 10 Ans. These accessories feature his favorite design elements and hallmarks of the house. Grosgain – a trim appearing in every Lanvin collection – appears woven through a chain of a bag, as a bow atop a flat, and as a necklace reminiscent of Elbaz’s famous bow tie. A cult-favorite panther clasp from the 2010 collection makes a showing on a leopard print bag and necklace. French bijoux, feminine bows, sparkling sequins and the scribbled Lanvin logo all recall the past ten years’ greatest hits.

Lanvin "10th Anniversary Happy Shoulder" bag, $4,450.

And as for what’s next, well…what will be, will be; the future is ours to see.

New at NM: Tata Harper Natural Skincare

Tata Harper at home in Vermont

While others peer into lab microscopes in search of a beauty breakthrough, Tata Harper has found one right at her feet, in the nutrient-rich soil of Vermont. Specifically, the 1,200-acre Julius Kingdom Farm, where the native Colombian lives with her husband and two children. “The simplicity of the country has always been important to me,” says Harper. “I just fell in love with Vermont.”

Inspired to live more holistically, Harper began a quest to find 100% natural skincare. “I had already changed my diet, but hadn’t really thought about the products I was using on my skin.” Disappointed by the effectiveness of existing options (“Water is natural, but it’s not going to do anything for wrinkles”), she set out to formulate her own collection.

Over the course of five years, Harper worked with biochemists, toured laboratories, and searched the globe to source the most luxurious, all-natural ingredients. Among her finds were the collagen-building narcissus bulb from Israel and the world’s only naturally derived hyaluronic acid from the Czech Republic. She also began to handcraft infusions and essential oils from her own farm-grown botanicals and continues to oversee all research, production, and eco-friendly manufacturing on the farm.
