Lollapalooza Style by The MidWasteland

The MidWasteland, Chicago’s own music and street-style blogger, shot the style scene around Lollapalooza over the weekend.

The Lollapalooza Music Festival took over Chicago’s Grant Park for a seventh time this year. The monstrous end-of-summer fest spans several miles in the middle of downtown and brings in thousands of people from around the world. A few of the fest’s most talked about acts this year included Florence and the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Black Keys. The beauty of this urban funfest is that the whole city of Chicago gets in on the action, so even those who couldn’t get their hands on a ticket could still experience music, celebs, and insanity. We hopped on all the gratis party action, happy to catch Of Monsters and Men, Delta Spirit, Polica, and Childish Gambino in more intimate settings. Our favorite landing spots of the weekend were The Rolling Stone party at Studio Paris, EnV Penthouse, and The Hard Rock Hotel. Oh and we can’t forget who we ran into while galavanting – Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Joe Mangienello (True Blood), Josh Henderson (Dallas), Kelly Osbourne, and Ivy Dickens (Gossip Girl). As for style, girls everywhere negotiated the heat in light layers and bold but casual accessories, especially sunglasses and the smoking slipper. Comfortable and put-together, it’s the perfect festival and Fall shoe. In all, a successful weekend! We’re already ready for 2013.

SXSW Music + Street Style by The MidWasteland

As someone who has had the opportunity to shoot street style at music festivals for the past 5 years, I started feeling like once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. Though, after traveling to Austin for the SXSW Music fest (my very first!), that sentiment has changed. Compared to the others I have been to, including Lollapalooza and Pitchfork, SXSW is not gated off. You are free to roam the streets, which makes the experience more exciting than confining. You can go from venue to venue within the 3 mile radius of downtown and find a show that suits your mood. One minute, you’re at the Hype Hotel checking out the indie band you’ve been dying to see and the next minute, you’re running over to a dive bar to catch an up-and-coming hip hop act your friend won’t stop texting you about.
