What’s Inside: Beauty Buyer Emily’s Makeup Bag

The NM beauty buying team scouts, sniffs and samples every “prestige” beauty product on the market. So what are the industry experts wearing every day? We asked NM assistant beauty buyer Emily Wisniewski, who confesses to a pretty extensive daily regimen, to show us the essentials she brings to the office for those sometimes necessary touch-ups.
Emily carries these essentials to the office.
1. I like keeping my La Mer regenerating serum with me in case my skin needs repairing. It’s great to use if I have any irritated skin on my face or even papercuts on my fingers from the office!
2. Kiehl’s lip balm #1 in cranberry keeps my lips nice and soft with a slight hint of color.
3. I use Bobbi Brown bronzer (natural #1) because it gives my skin some natural-looking color. I’ve used bronzers that make my skin look orange, but Bobbi Brown’s makes it look like I have a really great summer tan.
4. Yves Saint Laurent glossy stain (#7) is the easiest lip color for a working lady. The color stays all day, without reapplying.
5. I always carry my Cle de Peau concealer. It is my instant fix if I have any kind of beauty malfunction.
6. My favorite product of the moment would have to be the Kate Somerville Dermal Quench Liquid Lift. I can’t get over how clear and bright my skin has become after using this.
7. While this Lancome Color Fever lipgloss in heartstroke may look a little bright and loud, it’s actually very sheer, almost nude with a hint of color. Perfect for summer.
8. I keep my Le Metier Visage de Soie powder with me in case my skin starts to get oily.

NM: What is your morning beauty routine?
Emily: My morning beauty routine is a little tedious, so bear with me…
SKINCARE
First, I apply my Kate Somerville gentle daily cleanser with my Clarisonic Mia. It makes your face feel like it’s gone through a car wash – ha! I have given every person in my family a Clarisonic Mia and they are all hooked! Then I exfoliate with Kate Somerville’s Exfolikate. It gets rid of all of the dead skin cells and gives me a nice glow after I use it. Next, I tone with my Kiehl’s facial toner. I have oily skin, and the toner really helps keep the shine under control. Then, I use my Kate Somerville Dermal Quench Liquid Lift. This product is honestly amazing. It gives my skin instant moisture, fills in some expression lines that drive me crazy, and clears my skin if I have any breakouts. I cannot put into words how much I love this product – it really is fantastic! Then I use my La Mer regenerating serum – if your skin needs repairing, this serum is a miracle in a jar. Finally, I put on my Kiehl’s avocado eye cream.

MAKEUP
First I put on my Laura Mercier eye primer on my eye lids, and set it with my Le Metier powder. Next, I curl my lashes and apply my Lancome Doll Lash mascara. Then, I put on my Armani Master corrector under my eyes and blend it into the skin – it makes the dark circles go away! Next, I put on my Cle De Peau concealer under my eyes (immediately brightens the under eye area), and on any other part of my face that could use some concealing. After my concealer, I use my Le Metier Visage de Soie powder to set the concealer which keeps it all in place for most of the day. I then use my Bobbi Brown bronzer and Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour. Finally, I top it all off with a little Lancome Color Fever lipgloss – the color looks a little too bright in the package, but it looks very sheer when it’s on.

What is your favorite thing about your job? That’s a tough question, because I really have my dream job! It would probably have to be learning all about the products. I feel like everyone wants to know the secret to perfect skin or flawless makeup, and I get to learn all of the tricks, test them on myself, and then experience the incredible results. It’s a beauty fanatic’s paradise.

What beauty trend are you trying this season? I’m trying the whole natural, fresh faced beauty trend. I used to be all about the smokey eye, but now I am really enjoying wearing makeup that doesn’t look like I’m wearing makeup.
