A plethora of glamorous designer fragrances launched this season to well-deserved fanfare. Among them, a new eau de cologne called Thirdman quietly stands out. Thirdman’s taciturn packaging is just a fragment of the gender-neutral musk’s mysterious identity. From its countenance to its contents, Thirdman is filled with secrets.

“Consumers are so used to having things fleshed out for them,” says Thirdman founder Jean-Christophe le Greves. “So we are going against the trend of celebrity and designer fragrances, who are all about the name. Here we are taking the extreme opposite.”

Le Greves has a background as a creative consultant for some of the world’s most famed fragrances by brands including Calvin Klein, Prada and Estée Lauder.

Which leads us to Thirdman’s most telling secret – its confidential collaboration with some of today’s most noteworthy perfumers. The collective mission? To cast a traditional eau de cologne composed of minimal ingredients.

“What is making the Eaux by Thirdman unique is the minimal blend and synergy with other almost ‘invisible’ ingredients, which gives these eaux their modernity, new type of freshness, and second-skin comfort, contrarily to previous eaux de cologne which are faster vanishing,” le Greves says.

“It is a concentration of many ideas that have never been seen in a product,” le Greves says of the featureless male silhouette that has become the brand’s icon. “It’s not about wearing a brand, its about wearing yourself.”

Thirdman’s eau de cologne sneaks quietly into Neiman Marcus Las Vegas, Bal Harbor, Houston, Coral Gables, Michigan Avenue and Beverly Hills.
