Kaplan MD Skincare Combats Aging Effects of Hormonal Progression

It was not uncommon for Dr. Stuart Kaplan‘s patients to arrive at their appointments with bags of unsuccessful skincare purchases.
After over 25 years of treating dermatology cases, from skin cancer, hair loss, and psoriasis to cosmetic procedures such as sclerotherapy, fillers and laser resurfacing, the Beverly Hills-based dermatologist had seen it all.
It was clear that with all the creams, Botox, and facelifts available, there was still something missing. So in 2001, Dr. Kaplan began research to define the causes of skin aging. His research concluded that three distinct yet overlapping causes contribute to our body’s aging process: Chronologic Aging, Environmental Damage, and Natural Hormonal Progression.
“While there is little we can do about Chronological Aging, we can lessen the effects of Environmental Damage by eating right, exercising, and avoiding harsh weather conditions,” Dr. Kaplan explains. We can slow down the effects of Natural Hormonal Progression by increasing estrogen in our skin, he says.

“The hormone estrogen is what maintains and regulates the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid,” Dr. Kaplan says of the growth process that effects both men and women of all ethnicities from the day we are born.
In 2003 Dr. Kaplan took this discovery and developed a line of skincare products specifically for his patients that contained phytoestrogens, or plant based botanicals that mimicked the positive effect of estrogen on the skin. Over the years the Beverly Hills-based dermatologist continued his research and in late 2011 released a redeveloped line that incorporates the newest advances in plant stem cells and DNA Technology, in addition to phytoestrogens.
“It is understanding the science behind the ingredients and their interaction with the rest of the body,” Dr. Kaplan says. “The better we take care of our skin, the more we contribute to our body’s overall health and balance.”
