NM Beauty Awards: Karla Sugar’s Ballot
We asked a few of our favorite beauty bloggers–a group of make-up masters that have swatch-tested, sampled and reviewed the best the cosmetic counter has to offer–to share their NM Beauty Award ballots. First up, Dallas-based beauty blogger Karla Sugar.
Best Moisturizer
Kate Somerville skincare. It’s hard to pick just one favorite from her line; everything I’ve tried does exactly what it promises. But if I had to choose, I’d say Deep Tissue Moisturizer — it’s given me the skin I didn’t appreciate when I was younger.
Best Serum
Kate Somerville Quench. (Though my REAL favorite didn’t make the list: Kate Somerville Line Release)
Best Eye Care
Kate Somerville KateCeuticals Eye (but I want to “write-in” Kate Somerville Line Release Eye.)
Pre-Treatment, Cleanser and Toner
Oh, Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil, you deserved to make this list! But since I can’t vote for you:
Special Treatment
Foundation
Face (nearly an impossible question to answer!)
For me, Cle de Peau‘s celebrated concealer deserves its reputation. This little stick offers SO much coverage, you really only need a tiny amount to cover discoloration. And since I use so little product, there’s nothing to crease under my eyes. Quick tip: put on a little eye cream (and let it dry halfway) before putting on this concealer.
Eyeshadow/Eyeliner
Mascara
Poor NARS Larger than Life Lengthening and Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour. Such good mascaras! But my vote goes to Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara.
Lips and Nails
Matte lipsticks are having a major moment right now, and Bobbi Brown’s Rich Lip Color makes it easy for anyone to get in on the trend. These lightweight, “soft matte” lipsticks come in a beautiful range of colors, and are oh-so comfortable to wear (even for the balm-o-holics).
…but if I could give a second vote, I would go with Chantecaille Lip Chic. Tough decision!
Fragrance
Neiman Marcus offers an incredible selection of boutique Guerlain fragrances — it can be overwhelming for the uninitiated. But I recently had a “fragrance reading” with Guerlain‘s national director of fragrance and beauty, Marie Line Patry. This is such an amazing experience — she sniffs your (unperfumed) wrist, touches your skin (is it oily or dry?), then recommends fragrances that will compliment your body’s natural chemistry. Her instinct for scent is incredible, if she’s coming to a store near you, don’t miss the opportunity to get your own fragrance reading!
