The beauty-savvy know that when the La Mer team calls with “big news,” you should come right away. So we headed to Vancouver, BC to get the first look at their newest launch, The Moisturizing Soft Cream, and see firsthand where they harvest the sea kelp used in the Miracle Broth, the signature formula used in all Crème de la Mer products.
La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream
Moisturizing Soft Cream or Creme Soyeuse is La Mer’s fifth formulation of its legendary Crème de la Mer. Like the original, Soft Cream contains the powerful Miracle Broth and Lime Tea Extracts that leave skin feeling healthier, firmer, smoother, and more hydrated. The difference is in its texture.
“The goal was to make something that felt really rich on the skin, and yet was weightless,” explains VP of Research and Development Andy Bevacqua. The brains behind La Mer’s beauty, Bevacqua utilized advanced absorption technologies to ensure the new cream is not only light and luxurious, but effectively delivers the Miracle Broth’s nutrients and antioxidants. How does it work? Skin-mimicking lipids are layered between hydrating emollients to create multilayered spheres that can be easily absorbed by your skin. (Simple, right?)

Eaudemoiselle de Givenchy
Ladies who lunch (clad in Givenchy, Balenciaga, Celine and Lanvin) received a sweet treat at last week’s Eaudemoiselle de Givenchy fragrance launch at the Neiman Marcus flagship, in Dallas. Fashion Director Ken Downing presented Givenchy’s Fall collection, while guests sipped champagne and enjoyed the floral aroma of the house’s latest scent – Eaudemoiselle. The feminine scent is a “return to Versailles,” says Downing.
Feminine and sophisticated, Eaudemoiselle de Givenchy is surprisingly delicate, with an intense, floral-musky brillance. The elegant, minimalist bottle combines the timeless codes of traditional perfumery with modern sophistication. Thoroughly understated with a delicate vintage style, it expresses the fragrance’s femininity in its soft curves.

The feminine theme also resonated throughout Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci’s Fall collection. Although, in typical Tisci style, the softer side (lingerie-inspired dresses, lace and colorful satin combinations) was shaken up with strong tailoring and military-inspired jackets, expressing a masculine-feminine mix and inspiring Downing’s “Borrowed From The Boys” Fall trend.

Downing suggests “the return to the pant” as the essence of the men’s wear trend for Fall. Tisci’s “updated trouser adobe pant” is the one to covet, especially when it’s paired with a feminine draped blouse and tucked into a riding boot. An asymmetrical, sleeveless dress is the perfect transition piece. Wear it alone or add a layer underneath in the winter. The dress gives off a “molded modern sensibility when paired with a flat riding boot and double cuffs,” says Downing. A feminine floral scent is the perfect touch to capture Fall’s “he said, she said” tone.

Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Collection
There is something about the light in the Desert Southwest that is just a little more vibrant than anywhere else. Blues look bluer, pinks look pinker and everything is bolder. Bobbi Brown’s latest collection Desert Twilight transports us to an evening in the desert for Fall.
The gem of the collection is the eyeshadow palette that reminds me of a rose-colored sunset. The shades are neutral, but with a pink/blush undertone that looks especially great on hazel eyes. Her powders, as usual, are finely milled and a dream to blend. And I appreciate the inclusion of beautiful matte taupes, along with a chocolate that, when wet, makes a great eyeliner. The sleek metal packaging is worthy of the most fabulous of purses.
