“We wanted to use Christopher’s Frankenstein inspiration and turn it into something dark but dainty, like the collection,” said Pieroni. “There is subtle iridescence coming through the skin, but the prettiness is balanced by using black along the lower lashline.”

Backstage Beauty: Deborah Lippmann Nails

Kate Spade, Spring 2013.

Kate Spade, Spring 2013.

We might have to wait until Spring for the collections to hit Neiman Marcus, but our fingertips can flaunt the fashion now. Fashion’s go-to manicurist Deborah Lippmann was busy backstage at the New York Fashion Week shows, creating looks for Kate Spade, Narciso Rodriguez, and Badgley MischkaHere’s how to get the runway mani looks.

At Kate Spade’s Spring/Summer 2013 presentation an assortment of gingham patterns graced the nails that were all filed into a fashion-forward stiletto shape. Each gingham pattern starts with two coats of Amazing Grace as the base. From there, striping brushes were used to paint the lines for the pattern.  The pink gingham pattern was created using I Kissed a Girl, a demi-matte pink from the Run the World (Girls) set. The royal blue gingham was created using My Prerogative from the She’s Always a Woman set, and the yellow is It Girl also from the Run the World (Girls) set, while Lara’s Theme – a shade created with model Lara Stone – will represent the orange.  Adding another level of creativity to the look, Lippmann created a custom mint green lacquer for the show using a combination of existing shades – Amazing Grace, On the Beach and Yellow Brick Road.

Full sets of clean white nails where also created for the Kate Spade presentation by using two coats of Amazing Grace, an opaque pure white lacquer, with a high-shine finish.

At Narciso Rodriguez the nail look was completely buff and well-groomed. The clean, minimal nail was buffed using Lippmann’s Smooth Operator for a natural, sophisticated shine.

The Badgley Mischka Spring collection was inspired by the 1930’s version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  As soon as Lippmann saw the collection, she immediately envisioned a modern mauve nail to complement the soft and muted pastels within the collection.

Short, round nails showcased two coats of Lippmann’s new lacquer Modern Love. Addicted to Speed Top Coat added a high-shine finish to complete the look.

Backstage Beauty: Oscar de la Renta Hair

New York Fashion Week not only produces the latest must-have trends in clothing and accessories, it sometimes sparks unexpected trends in hair and makeup. At Oscar de la Renta the designer added an element of punk to his polished collection with color-streaked hair. Backstage at the Spring/Summer 2013 show blue, pink and yellow rockstar-worthy extensions were clipped and then swept into elegant French twists.

Want to rock the polished meets punk do? Here’s what you’ll need.

1.) A high-powered blowdryer for sleekness and volume. Plug-in a Sedu dryer – it has more power than a conventional dryer and is equipped with an ionic generator. Plus it comes in cool streak-matching colors like pink and yellow!

2.) A sturdy hair brush for the blow-out and French twist sculpting. Grab a Mason Pearson brush – the original rubber-cushion hairbrush, handmade with the best materials to help care for your hair.

3.) Colored hair clip-ins and bobby pins. Find these at your local beauty supply store.

4.) Volumizing spray for maximum height. Pump up your roots with Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel.

5.)  Mega-hold hairspray to lock it down. Top off your look with Serge Normant MetaLuxe hairspray – the weightless mist holds volume throughout the day.

The Cherry Lip

Cherry lip options lined up in the cosmetic department.

A line-up of cherry lip options.

For Fall our pout color of choice is cherry — rouges ranging from crimson to cerise to claret all qualify. There really is a shade for every skin tone. I picked a few cherry lipsticks to compare in the cosmetic department of our flagship store.

Your cherry lip might be a single swipe straight from the tube, or you may pick up a trick from one of our makeup artists and layer lip pencil in one shade, an opaque lipstick in another, and a transparent tinted gloss for a complex, rich effect that creates your perfect red.

Bobbi Brown's Red #10

Not sure which cherry shade is for you? Your sales associate or one of our online beauty advisors can help you identify reds with blue or yellow undertones that suit your complexion and comfort level.

How It’s Made: La Mer Miracle Broth

Vancouver Island

The beauty-savvy know that when the La Mer team calls with “big news,” you should come right away. So we headed to Vancouver, BC to get the first look at their newest launch, The Moisturizing Soft Cream, and see firsthand where they harvest the sea kelp used in the Miracle Broth, the signature formula used in all Crème de la Mer products.

La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream

La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream

Moisturizing Soft Cream or Creme Soyeuse is La Mer’s fifth formulation of its legendary Crème de la Mer. Like the original, Soft Cream contains the powerful Miracle Broth and Lime Tea Extracts that leave skin feeling healthier, firmer, smoother, and more hydrated. The difference is in its texture.

“The goal was to make something that felt really rich on the skin, and yet was weightless,” explains VP of Research and Development Andy Bevacqua. The brains behind La Mer’s beauty, Bevacqua utilized advanced absorption technologies to ensure the new cream is not only light and luxurious, but effectively delivers the Miracle Broth’s nutrients and antioxidants. How does it work? Skin-mimicking lipids are layered between hydrating emollients to create multilayered spheres that can be easily absorbed by your skin. (Simple, right?)
