For Fall 2013 Tibi designer Amy Smilovic presented a sporty and versatile vibe. The collection blended urban edginess with 90s refinement through utilitarian pieces and sculpted silhouettes. To complement the collection, the Bobbi Brown team created an angular makeup look, conveying confidence and ease with an unstructured black chocolate smokey eye, a soft hint of blush and a pale soft lip.

The fashion masses headed downtown to Milk Studios for the Ohne Titel show this afternoon. The Fall collection was filled with pops of color and geometric patterns, everyone from street-style star Miroslava Duma to Vogue editor Meredith Melling Burke were present. After Ohne Titel wrapped I hopped in NM fashion director Ken Downing’s car and we raced to Donna Karan. When we arrived Donna’s right-hand-woman @DKNYprgirl, equipped with headset and clipboard, showed us to our seats. The mood was set with a large abstract gold sculpture anchoring the runway. Models with swinging high-ponytails dashed down the runway to classic rock tunes. The show program describes the collection as an evolution of seven easy pieces, a system where “the body and spirit communicate the sensuality and power of being a woman.” — SB

3.1 Phillip Lim often represents the quintessential cool girl – nonchalant, understated and confident. This Fall the lust-worthy look evolves – it’s all about perfecting the intentionally undone do. Backstage hair stylist Paul Hanion, for Frederic Fekkai, finessed the model’s hair by perfecting the nonchalant tuck. Hanion meticulously pinned bobbi pins to the ends of the hair, mimicking the ends being tucked into the collar of a coat or jacket. Nars makeup artists topped off the look with an understated eye and bold lip. — KS

Alice + Olivia’s Fall 2013 presentation was a whimsical, dramatic affair. Guests sipped champagne through striped straws while snapping photos of decadent models and fun accessories – sunglass-clad party pumps and a zebra-shaped handbag were a few of the Fall favorites. All the top fashion editors are watching 26-year-old Wes Gordon closely. This was certainly evident on Monday night when the line to get into Gordon’s Fall 2013 presentation at the Gramercy Theatre was circling the block. The up-and-coming young talent’s collection featured gorgeous draping, billowing silk capes, and colorful furs. – SB

8:00 p.m. – Marc by Marc Jacobs show
Even though the Marc by Marc Jacobs show date, time and location were changed at the last minute, the fashion set had no problem rearranging hectic NYFW schedules to accommodate the occasion. Show-goers were embracing Marc’s Spring obsession with bold geometric prints (Anna Dello Russo was sitting front row in a green check mini dress from Jacobs’ Louis Vuitton Spring runway collection). For Fall, the hair was teased and the prints and color palette were evocative of a laid-back 70s era. — SB

AERIN Beauty Holiday Palette.
Estee Lauder heir Aerin Lauder debuted her own eponymous label AERIN earlier this year. “I joke that I’ve been in the industry for 42 years, when really it’s been 20. Nonetheless, it’s been many years,” says Lauder. The AERIN collection is a response to people asking what beauty products Lauder uses. The collection evolves this season with a new holiday color palette, (in stores and online now) which includes six complementary eye shadow shades that make an “evening in or out” effortless and chic.

“Holiday is a bit more glamorous,” says Lauder. The eye shadow palette has a highlighter in it, which can be used on your cheek and brow bones. It also allows this idea of a metallic, iridescent or smoky eye come to life. The lipsticks are full sized but housed in small cases that fit into an evening bag. “It’s handbag chic, minaudiere chic,” says Lauder.

According to Lauder, “beauty is very personal and it’s what makes you feel complete.” The beauty collection is inspired by a few of Lauder’s favorite things – “friends, flowers and fabrics.” The compacts are packaged in a gold linen, the colors are mostly inspired by nature (whether plants, trees or flowers) and the entire collection has been vetted through her friends. “My friends and I often discuss that we’re juggling so much, rarely have time for ourselves and we ask ourselves how do you make life easier?” This beauty collection is really mistake-proof and effortless. The products reflect moments where life is peaceful or fun. One of the lip shades is a creamy natural beige color, called ‘Sunday Morning.’ “This is such a moment, you wake up, read the paper, drink coffee and decide what to do for the day. It’s a moment of peacefulness, it’s a moment that I love,” says Lauder.

When asked what her personal beauty philosophy is she says, “just because something is on trend doesn’t mean you have to wear it. You can enjoy it, you can see it, you can look at it in magazines but just because it’s of the moment doesn’t mean you need to embrace colored nail polish or lipstick. You should always feel comfortable with what you are wearing.”

This focus on the make-up of your personality rather than looking perfect is what Brown’s newest book Pretty Powerful is all about. In her inspiring eighth tome she interviews dozens of real women, celebrities and athletes about what beauty means to them. The result—a manual that is filled with pretty and powerful images, tales and tutorials. NMdaily spoke with the cosmetic guru last week at NM Dallas-NorthPark when she stopped in to sign copies and greet hundreds of product loyalists.

NMdaily: When did you realize that beauty products could be about embracing your features and inner beauty?
Bobbi Brown: I realized years ago that I couldn’t compete with models, actresses or the near-perfect photos in the magazines. But I did put all I learned together to make myself feel and look better by using makeup that enhanced what I already had. Don’t compare yourself to images of youthful perfection – celebrate what you have instead.
NMdaily: You compiled a very diverse group of women for your new book. How did you decide whom to feature?
Bobbi Brown: All of the women in the book have inspired me in their own special way. They come from all different backgrounds, are uniquely beautiful and have motivating life stories that are truly empowering.

“We wanted to use Christopher’s Frankenstein inspiration and turn it into something dark but dainty, like the collection,” said Pieroni. “There is subtle iridescence coming through the skin, but the prettiness is balanced by using black along the lower lashline.”

We might have to wait until Spring for the collections to hit Neiman Marcus, but our fingertips can flaunt the fashion now. Fashion’s go-to manicurist Deborah Lippmann was busy backstage at the New York Fashion Week shows, creating looks for Kate Spade, Narciso Rodriguez, and Badgley Mischka. Here’s how to get the runway mani looks.

At Kate Spade’s Spring/Summer 2013 presentation an assortment of gingham patterns graced the nails that were all filed into a fashion-forward stiletto shape. Each gingham pattern starts with two coats of Amazing Grace as the base. From there, striping brushes were used to paint the lines for the pattern. The pink gingham pattern was created using I Kissed a Girl, a demi-matte pink from the Run the World (Girls) set. The royal blue gingham was created using My Prerogative from the She’s Always a Woman set, and the yellow is It Girl also from the Run the World (Girls) set, while Lara’s Theme – a shade created with model Lara Stone – will represent the orange. Adding another level of creativity to the look, Lippmann created a custom mint green lacquer for the show using a combination of existing shades – Amazing Grace, On the Beach and Yellow Brick Road.

Full sets of clean white nails where also created for the Kate Spade presentation by using two coats of Amazing Grace, an opaque pure white lacquer, with a high-shine finish.

At Narciso Rodriguez the nail look was completely buff and well-groomed. The clean, minimal nail was buffed using Lippmann’s Smooth Operator for a natural, sophisticated shine.

The Badgley Mischka Spring collection was inspired by the 1930’s version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. As soon as Lippmann saw the collection, she immediately envisioned a modern mauve nail to complement the soft and muted pastels within the collection.

Short, round nails showcased two coats of Lippmann’s new lacquer Modern Love. Addicted to Speed Top Coat added a high-shine finish to complete the look.

Prep skin with Repair Oil-free Day Lotion SPF 15 and Hydrating Primer. Mix Moisture Supreme Foundation with Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer and apply the base. Conceal any problem areas with Secret Camoflouge.
EYES
Apply Wheat Eye Basics to the eyelid. Contour the crease with Dune Bronze Pressed Powder. Using the Black Ebony Tighline Cake Eyeliner and Tightline Activator, draw a clean, straight line across the lower lash line.
Apply Black Long Lash Mascara to the top and bottom lashes. Finish with specs of gold leaf in the corner of the eye.

Contour the cheekbones and forehead with Dune Bronze Pressed Powder.
