Amid the Super Bowl hoopla, much attention has been rightfully lavished on Cowboys Stadium—the luxury amenities, the $1.1 billion price tag, the sheer scale of it. And don’t overlook the art collection. Yes, seriously. It houses 21 works of art by 19 notable artists. Writer Anais Morrel takes us on a tour.

Doug Aitken’s New Horizon is a 6 ft tall LED-lit light box of a city coastline at night. Hanging in the Southwest Elevator Lobby on the Hall of Fame level, New Horizon also references the shimmering blue star on the Cowboys’ helmet. -
Franz Ackermann and 8 of his students got so carried away hand painting Coming Home (Meet Me) At The Waterfall, they painted past their commissioned space, all the way through the upper Monumental Staircase mezzanine, creating an area that has since been set up as a bar from which to appreciate their work. -

Wayne Gonzales’ Cheering Crowd is a wall-sized acrylic painting on three repetitive canvases. Purportedly the original image downloaded from the internet was of a NASCAR crowd, recognizable by the fact they aren’t wearing any team jerseys. -
French artist Daniel Buren’s Unexpected Variable Configurations: A Work In Situ is located high above the Southeast Concession stand by the employee entrance. Stadium employees endearingly refer to it as ‘the mustard stain.’ When the Pittsburg Steelers come to town, they might assume the stadium is flying Pittsburg colors. -
While the public spaces are all about the art, the hallways to the 300 private suites and elevators are all about the Cowboys. Life size, black and white, vintage photos of players dominate. As do the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. -

From Legend To A Choir by Paris, Texas native Trenton Doyle Hancock adds color and narrative intrigue to the Southeast Ramp wall. -
The owners of the Dallas Cowboys didn’t want the stadium to scream Cowboys. Subtle features like these football shaped lights in the Main Concourse only hint at the stadium’s purpose.
