Video: Countdown to Holiday with Neiman Marcus, Target and CFDA

The countdown to December 1 has begun!

In the heat of summer there is a sense of holiday cheer amongst Neiman Marcus, Target and the CFDA. A feeling of giddiness as we anxiously await to unwrap more than 50 limited-edition gift items designed by two dozen of the nation’s most notable designers. While the #holiday24 product details are still as top secret as Santa’s workshop, a few of the designers we tapped with Target for our mega-collab let the cameras into their studios to talk about the project. For now, the superlative slate of talent are keeping their designs, that will be sold at both Neiman Marcus and Target, a surprise. One thing is for sure though, spirits are bright!

Ballroom Blitz With DWTS Maks, Tony and Val

NM Short Hills and Maserati of Central New Jersey cohosted a birthday bash for Maksim Chmerkovskiy of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Fellow DWTS pros Tony Dovoloni and Val Chmerkovskiy joined Maks in charming the crowd. To say the ladies were excited would be quite the understatement. This trio was in town for a special performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom, a special one-night show that told the story of Maks’ career and benefitted St. Mary’s Healthcare System for children. Celebrities, fellow DWTS pros, and dancers from Mak’ and Tony’s studio, Dance With Me, were among the scheduled performers.  The guests at NM Short Hills were treated to a sneak peek of the Birthday Bash performances, courtesy of the thrilling, young dancers of Dance With Me Studios. Enjoy.

Holiday Crawl Tubes Return to Downtown Dallas

The kiddie crawl tubes, which debuted in the Neiman Marcus holiday windows last year, have returned to Downtown Dallas with a new theme. This year, traditional Christmas vignettes surround the tubes, taking the place of last year’s space monkeys. But it is the kids, popping in and out of view, who steal the scene.

Toms Shoes Get Crafty

A series of “Style Your Sole” events with Toms Shoes kicked off at NorthPark Dallas last weekend. Artists visited the store to customize canvas Toms according to kids’ wishes. It was not only a fun activity for kids, but also an opportunity for them to learn about the worldwide need for children’s shoes and what Toms is doing to help. (For every pair of shoes sold, Toms donates a pair to a child in need.)

The Art of Fashion, The Art of Play

The March issue of The Book is dedicated to the Art of Fashion. Renowned photographer Koto Bolofo and the crew shot on two Los Angeles locations, Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area and Dorris Place Elementary School, since the chosen theme was a childlike sense of play, a theme that proved infectious, as documented in this little film. This is the “extended play” version.

Gucci creative director Frida Giannini heads to Los Angeles this week for the Grammy Awards festivities and to be honored by UNICEF. Jennifer Lopez will present her with the inaugural 2011 Women of Compassion Award at the UNICEF Women of Compassion luncheon.

NMdaily: What do you enjoy about Southern California? Does being there affect your perception of fashion there?

Giannini: I actually shot the Spring/Summer campaign in Palm Springs. When it comes to Southern California style, I like that there’s a real sense of ease, but also glamour to the way women dress. Growing up in Rome, I became very fond of the sun and natural light, so I certainly appreciate California’s sunny weather. I am constantly being inspired by my surroundings.
