Ovitz

Kimberly Ovitz grew up surrounded by significant works of modern art, and it shows in her approach to fashion. In just over two years she has established an architectural, androgynous, glam/grunge point of view for her label.

Her Spring collection explored themes of transformation, pattern, and the simple square.

“I considered how to use the square to make order out of chaos. The Spring/ Summer 2011 collection is very much about finding beauty in simplicity,” she said.

Her Fall 2011 collection referenced Oscar Neimeyer’s modernist architecture in Brasilia. At the same time, she introduced Series, a capsule collection of jersey wardrobe staples.

Her label made headlines recently when Lindsay Lohan wore a white Kimberly Ovitz dress for a court appearance. But Ovitz, daughter of entertainment executive Michael Ovitz, avoids trading on attention of that nature. She’d rather disclose that she was once a competitive equestrian, or that she studied art history and business at Brown University, and interned for J.Crew, Chanel and photographer Herb Ritts before launching her business. She’s disciplined and intent on proving herself.

“I like to respect classic tailoring while creating progressive designs,” she says of her approach.

Her collections explore the relationship between outward appearance and interior structure. It begins with fabric development. She considers the social role of the modern woman, and offers them the luxury of comfort.

Kimberly Ovitz will appear at Neiman Marcus Coral Gables on March 3, 2011.
