Conversation With: Nicole Miller
NMdaily called on Nicole Miller in her studio, and not just because we have the same initials.
NMd: When did you decide you wanted to be a designer?
NM: Always! I went to RISD directly from high school and also the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.
NMd: What’s your favorite part of the creative process?
NM: The beginning, and I love picking a color story.
NMd: What’s your best styling advice?
NM: I always say look in the rearview mirror before you leave the house. That goes for your hair as well as your outfit.
NM: Twiggy. I just love the way she epitomizes the Sixties. She was so perfect.
NMd: Which celebrities would you love to style? Alive or dead?
NM: Arielle Dombasle.
NMd: What is the trend you most dislike? And like?
NM: I dislike flats. I don’t think they flatter anyone. I like tunics and leggings.
NMd: What’s your personal style?
NM: I always love an eclectic mix. A lot of black, and skinny pants, lots of boots.
NMd: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
NM: Starting a business on next to no money!
NMd: What was your greatest fashion splurge?
NM: My garnet (real) halter top from Marcia Ganem.
NMd: If you were to die and come back as another person or thing, what do you think it would be?
NM: A moth, because I would be around clothes for sure.
