New at Cusp: Maison Scotch
The digital landscape of fashion bloggers is quite vast. However, any informed fashionista knows the Scandinavian-based bloggers rule. Think Norway’s Hanneli Mustaparta or Swedish-based Elin Kling. These girls not only influence our daily styling decisions, they also inspired the Fall collection of Amsterdam-based ready-to-wear label, Maison Scotch. The design team “fell in love with the way girls from Stockholm put together a fashionable edgy look, but in a cleaner, no-fuss way,” they wrote. This nonchalant Nordic edge, mixed with influences from Paris and a visit to the American Indian museum in New York sparked weeks of “sketching, hand-drawing Ikat prints and designing bohemian garments with beautiful hand-beading, fringe and tassel details.”
Standout pieces for Fall include mixed-media jackets, the biker skinny pant and soft knit cardigans. A traditional trench coat gets an edgy update with leather sleeves, while the biker skinny pant features zips, studs and knee stitched parts. Mix these tough separates with a soft knitted cardigan featuring sheer detail in the back. Graphically, Maison Scotch experimented with different techniques on T-shirts like sequins, shiny foil and photo-prints. “It’s all about texture and feel.” Although the design studio, now in their sixth season, is staying true to the signature eclectic Maison Scotch feel, it’s evident their style is visibly evolving with refined details and craftmanship. As they say in Amsterdam, “let the winter begin!”
