Deborah Lippmann’s Fall 2012 Runway Fingertips
Go-to fashion manicurist Deborah Lippmann, famous for long-wearing nail shades with radio-hit names, knows that a chic outfit is nothing without perfectly polished fingertips. At New York Fashion Week this month, Lippmann was backstage at Kate Spade, Donna Karan, Rodarte, Marchesa and more, shaping and painting models’ nails with the most covetable shades of the season.
At Kate Spade, Lippmann created a pretty polka dot nail for the ladylike label that’s always full of fun touches. The rounded tipped nail’s base is Fade to Black, an opaque vinyl record black, topped with sporadic polka dots in I’m Not Innocent, a clean creamy peach.

Donna Karan Fall 2012
Donna Karan maintained a feminine and womanly aesthetic this season, but wanted to add a bit of a twist to the nail look. Lippmann took a modern approach to a classic look, with Fashion, a not‐so‐typical taupe, on the nails and Single Ladies, a claret red, on the tip.

Marchesa Fall 2012
At Marchesa, Lippmann was asked to create colors to complement various looks in the collection. Most models walked down the runway with a combination of Baby Love, a baby doll pink, topped with two layers of an iridescent glitter called Stairway to Heaven. Lippmann also used Stardust, a platinum frost metallic, and Nefertiti, a modern micro fine golden shimmer. Regardless of the shade, the fingers matched the toes of each model, and the nail was short and round. Every look was finished with Addicted to Speed ultra quick‐dry top coat.

Rodarte Fall 2012
Rodarte envisioned an earthy, almost dusty nail to complement the collection this season. Bronze and golden shimmer was used in the makeup, so Lippmann came up with the perfect combination for the nails using two coats of No More Drama, a sultry golden caramel.

Ports 1961 Fall 2012
Ports 1961 wanted a softer take on a classic rust‐colored nail for fall. Lippmann created a custom lacquer by mixing a few drops of Brick House, her shimmering rust shade, with clear polish for a sheer, modern take on her rich metallic shade.

Badgley Mischka Fall 2012
For the Fall 2012 season Badgley Mischka wanted an original nail look to complement the collection which was inspired by the light angles and geometry of the German Impressionist film, “Metropolis.” Lippmann came up with a sophisticated and playful spin on nail art, with a modern French manicure. The short, feminine nail had Dark Side of the Moon, an aubergine shade, with a subtle pop of shimmer on the tip with Nefertiti.
