Donna Karan Remains Committed to Haiti
The fashion industry quickly rallied to support the recovery effort after Haiti’s 2010 earthquake, but perhaps no designer has kept up the effort more than Donna Karan, who launched Hope, Help & Rebuild Haiti as part of her company’s Urban Zen Foundation. Remember our video of Donna Karan and Ken Downing after her Spring 2012 show? They discussed Donna’s passionate work to rebuild the country, and how natural it was to find inspiration there and utilize Haitian artisans to create jewelry and prints for her tribal-chic collection. In fact, the collection was titled “The Artisan Touch.” Two months later, Donna and crew were off to Haiti again, to shoot the Spring campaign with Adriana Lima. Donna’s web site has wonderful, behind-the-scenes photos such as this. Below are Donna, tobacco leaf artist Jean Paul Sylvaince, Adriana Lima, and painter Ronald Mevs in Jacmel. To learn more about Donna, Haiti and HHRH, read Lauren David Peden’s interview of Donna in The March Book from Neiman Marcus.
Donna’s Spring collection is available at NeimanMarcus.com and Neiman Marcus stores.
