Lanvin, Fall 2011

Under a slouching willow tree, a spare aesthetic opened the Lanvin show by Alber Elbaz, and continued with many double-face separates. Feminine pieces—in glamorous lace, cabbage rose prints and polka dots—felt most like Lanvin, while rugged knits and men’s-inspired flat loafers delivered surprises. Other key accessories were tortoise handbags, exaggerated crystal necklaces and framed metal wedges. Great black dresses—long, short, long sleeves, no sleeves—and Sixties shaped coats with a nod to Courreges. Fur came by way of astrakhan suits and caps. Python shifts and skirt suits and leather dresses kept things intriguing.
