On Set: In Paris With Charlotte Olympia

Ken Downing and I visited Charlotte Olympia designer Charlotte Dellal in her temporary Paris showroom, and were completely smitten by her and her whimsical designs. She showed us a photo of a paper moon — the kind that old-timey carnivals used to have for people to be photographed posing on. Charlotte had one at her wedding, she said. So a crescent moon with a face is her signature motif for the Fall/Winter collection. But that’s far from the only motif. Playing cards, dominoes, African animals, baroque and pierrot clowns are in the mix too. Ken fell for the pierrot, something he used to collect. He and Charlotte found instant chemistry in front of lensman Dan Lecca. (Tune in later for that batch of photos.) Charlotte’s personal charm is as limitless as her creativity.
