Peter Som For Sferra Bedding
Peter Som showed at New York Fashion Week today, and that’s not all. His collaboration with Sferra, the luxury linens brand, is poised to hit stores. And just as a wardrobe calls for updating to reflect the changing seasons, bedding should confer the same feeling of expression. It’s like an outfit you wear every night.
In 1891 Gennaro Sferra opened his Sferra Fine Linens factory in Venice, Italy. All the patterns in this capsule collection were printed in Italy too. The Chrysanthemum print came right from Som’s Spring 2010 collection.

“I was inspired by the 1930’s French seaside images of Jaques Henri Lartigue, with a touch of Japanese imagery,” said Som. “I combined bold patterns with graphic stripes, and all the girls had sunglasses and head pieces. This pattern of chrysanthemums done in the style of painter Christian Bérard brought a sense of movement and unabashed fun to the collection. I love the splashy yet sophisticated feel that this pattern brings to the bedding.”

Newport
The Newport florals hark back to Som’s Spring 2007 collection, a modern spin on Marie Antoinette.
“I was inspired by the images from the Sofia Coppola movie—the print was a bold and graphic interpretation of a very traditional wallpaper print. The collection was all about a mix of modern ease with the feminine touches of that period,” said Som. The idea was ultra-feminine with a light touch, speaking to the needs of the modern woman. In a similar vein, he said, “the Newport collection is the best of both worlds—a modern spin on a classic pattern.”
