Sachin + Babi = Love

Babi and Sachin Ahluwalia
Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia are the creative husband-and-wife team behind the uber-luxe Ankasa home collection and the fashion collection Sachin + Babi, by which they bring “couture products to the contemporary girl,” and includes jewelry. They combine what is chic and classic with what is edgy and trend-driven. Babi, a super-chic mother of two, spoke for the couple, who live in New York.
NM: What was your inspiration for your Spring 2011 collection?
BA: After a recent trip to Tuscany, I was inspired by its fields of wheat and meadows and soldiered cypress trees. The Spring 2011 Sachin + Babi girl comes right out of the hilltops of Montalcino.
NM: What’s your personal style?
BA: Classic yet eclectic.
NM: If you were to die and come back as another fashion person, who do you think it would be?
BA: Oh my, I live in the present so much, I never contemplated it. But maybe I would have to come back as Madame Coco Chanel’s apprentice.
NM: What’s the state of fashion, in your mind?
BA: Gals rule their own worlds, whether they are sassy home makers or jet-set entrepreneurs. Today’s woman is a very savvy customer who loves to enhance her wardrobe with pieces she can live in, day to evening.
NM: What’s your greatest fashion extravagance?
BA: Splendid travels which inspire us and maintain our balance in life.
NM: What’s your favorite part of the creative process?
BA: Sachin and I love talking about our ideas and translating them from pen and paper to cloth.
NM: What’s your best decorating advice?
BA: Surround yourself with objects, pieces of art, books, anything that you love from the past and present.
NM: What’s your secret place in New York?
BA: A Buddhist temple on the Lower East Side.
Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia are attending the Fashion Rules party at NM Paramus on March 3, 2011.
