Designer Erin Fetherston

Girl-about-town and designer Erin Fetherston was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area. After graduating from UC Berkeley and attending Parsons School of Art and Design in Paris, she launched her own label in 2005 during the Paris haute couture shows. Fetherston has been living in NYC since 2007, designing her eponymous collection. In 2010, she was named guest designer for Juicy Couture and created a capsule collection for the label. This Fall, Fetherston is launching a new contemporary collection called Erin, which has her signature feminine, whimsical and romantic sensibility.

NM: How important is style in your everyday life?

EF: Style is a quintessential part of my life.  I believe style has a place in everything, from clothing, to home, to food and entertaining.  Style helps us curate, define and enhance our lives.

NM: Can you tell us about your new contemporary collection?

EF: I’m very excited about launching my new line Erin for Fall 2011. The collection is an evolution of the romantic, feminine aesthetic I established in my designer line, with an emphasis on fun party dresses and sophisticated but playful separates.

NM: What should every woman have in her closet?

EF: I am a believer in the little black dress, and the little white dress for that matter.

NM: What’s on your wish list for Fall?

EF: I’m always saving up to buy shoes!  Christian Louboutin and Charlotte Olympia are my favorites!

NM: Who is your fashion icon?

EF: I have several fashion icons who’ve inspired me over the years: Mia Farrow, Marianne Faithfull, Bianca Jagger, Grace Kelly.  I love independent and strong women who use style to distinguish themselves.

NM: Where do you seek your inspiration?

EF: Inspiration is everywhere.  I look to nature every season to help inspire choices about color, form and texture.  Old films, books, photographs all help me to tap into whatever mood I want to explore next.

NM: Did you do anything fun this summer? How do you unwind?

EF: I really embraced the staycation this summer, as I was mostly in New York City preparing my next collection for fashion week.  I really enjoy NYC in the summer.  I love eating outside, riding my bicycle and spending time with my two dogs outdoors.

ERIN will be available at select Neiman Marcus stores this Fall.
