Erin Fetherston’s Butterfly Moment

The designer wore one of her butterfly-print dresses earlier this month on vacation in Hawaii.
For her Spring 2012 collection, Erin Fetherston looked to ’60s style icon Mia Farrow and one of the most posh fêtes of the era.
“I saw a photograph of Mia Farrow at Truman Capote’s Black & White Ball in 1966 and she was wearing a little shift dress and a beautiful butterfly mask,” Fetherston says of the image that inspired her current collection that’s swarmed in butterfly prints. “That was the launching point for the season’s inspiration and specifically the print motif in the collection.”
Like her muse for the season, Fetherston sports a mod pixie-cut hairdo and a taste for whimsical, feminine fashion.
“Using the photograph of Mia Farrow as my starting point, I explored clean modern silhouettes and embraced bright pops of color to ultimately create a collection of easy-to-wear pieces that are fresh and playfully chic,” Fetherston says.

Playful and fresh pieces like her skinny satin butterfly-print pant, her bias-cut trapeze butterfly-print chiffon dress and her personal favorite, the free-flowing semi-sheer chiffon butterfly-print maxi dress are coincidentally emblazoned with Neiman Marcus’ go-to emblem and inevitably caught the eyes of NM’s creative team.

“I was just visiting Neiman Marcus in Tyson’s Galleria, and I was so excited when I saw “The List” postcards they were handing out in the store featuring Karlie Kloss in the dress,” she says of her pink butterfly-print chiffon dress that, like many in her collection, happens to be stamped with Neiman Marcus’ mascot.

On Fetherston’s fashion radar right now: “Little white dresses, fun, playful prints and bright pop colors like tangerine, and popsicle pink – it gets you in the mood for summer!”

Erin Fetherston will be making a personal appearance at our newest NM store in Walnut Creek, California this Wednesday, March 28.
