You’ve waited very patiently for this, and for that alone you belong on Santa’s “nice” list. NM and Target announced an epic co-collaboration with 24 CFDA designers way back in July. We now present the collection, which will be available December 1. As promised, it’s chockablock with giftable items for women, men, children, pets and home. What’s on your list?
Today in New York the retailers unveiled the products to the press, appeared on “Good Morning America” and announced a major integration into the ABC series “Revenge.” Target and Neiman Marcus will be the sole sponsors of the show’s November 11 finale, and in lieu of commercials, the Revenge team is creating original content incorporating the #Holiday24 collection. It will be stylish, scandalous, and it will destroy you.

How It’s Made: IIIBeca Handbags
New York-based handbag designer Joy Gryson debuted her namesake luxury collection in 2006 with a contemporary accessories collection quickly following. This year, Gryson launches IIIBeCa Handbags — pronouced “TriBeCa” — with four distinct styles. North Moore Satchel, Chambers Crossbody, Duane Street Messenger and Reade Street Tote are not only fashion-forward, sustainable and functional, they also give back. Gryson gives 9% of wholesale proceeds (3% each) to 9/11 Memorial, Family Focus Adoption Services and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Gryson lives in TriBeCa, “the triangle below Canal Street,” in lower Manhattan where the handbags are designed. The IIIBeCa line is then manufactured using supple vegetable-tanned leathers.
“My favorite part of the IIIBeCa design process is choosing the colors of the leathers, the stitching, the edge paint and the nylon snap-out linings. This is by far my most colorful line and I’ve so enjoyed experimenting with color in a more vibrant way than I have in the past,” says Gryson.

Conversation With: Alexander Wang

Ken Downing and Alexander Wang catch up in NYC.
KEN DOWNING: Alex, you are considered one of the most brilliant and, might I say, coolest young talents on the American scene today. How old were you when you started your first collection?
ALEXANDER WANG: I was only 20 years old. It was my sophomore year of college. I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing, but I was determined to make it work. It was only six sweaters. I didn’t know what a line sheet was. I had no merchandising skills. All I knew was I wanted to design.

Alexander Wang, Spring 2013.
…I find that I’m inspired by others around me, how people dress on the streets. It was a real challenge for me in design school. I found the ideas of fashion I was being taught were very one dimensional to my ideas of what high fashion was all about. You know, the idea of what was agreeable, what was considered luxurious. I always felt T-shirts and sweatpants, when well designed, can be the most valuable things.

Alexander Wang, Spring 2013.
KD: You have always loved a nod to the idea of gymnasium chic. You were one of the first designers in recent history to reengage with locker-room themes. You really put the whole idea of a sportif motif in motion. I think yours was one of the first shows where we saw running shorts walk the runway in quite some time.
