Steven Lagos Clocks 35 Years

“Because of you I have a new ring today,” a woman, holding a small Neiman Marcus bag with newly purchased, sterling silver contents, says to jewelry designer Steven Lagos at NM Willowbend, outside Dallas. This Lagos loyalist is one of many who has been collecting the designer’s signature sterling silver caviar creations over the past 35 years. “The Caviar has been our signature for a long time, but like anything, we are constantly updating,” Lagos says of his coined technique that requires hundreds of steps to complete just one piece.

“You know our pieces are highly engineered,” Lagos says, as he takes out a Caviar bracelet from behind the counter’s glass case. “There are like 70 or 80 individual pieces in this. A piece like this could take an entire day to make.” The attention to detail is what has turned Lagos customers into Lagos collectors. “They serve as my muse a lot,” says the designer, who splits his time between his workshop in Philadelphia and his home in New York. “One of the things I say about jewelry and our collection is that it is designed twice. I design the collection, and then the customer redesigns it when they buy it. They put it together with their things, they put it together with their wardrobe.”
