Joan Hornig jewelry is a gift that continues to give back, regardless of the season.  The New York-based designer makes a statement and a difference with her designs, since 100% of the profits (one hundred percent!) are donated to the charity of the purchaser’s choice.  Plus, each design is one-of-a-kind and handmade in New York.

Hornig’s designs blend tradition with a contemporary aesthetic.  She references nature and classical forms with a freshness created through scale, balance, color and movement.  Hornig believes jewelry should contribute to a woman’s beauty, not compete. “The design is only as good as a woman’s willingness to wear it,” says Hornig.

Hornig studied the history of art as an undergraduate at Harvard before earning her MBA at Columbia Business School.  The combination of her artistic interests and her business experience has enabled her to create a line that brings together her passions – beauty, individuality and philanthropy.  Hornig began designing jewelry in 2003 “when beading became the new knitting,” says Hornig.  Shortly after taking a jewelry class with her 12-year-old daughter, other women starting noticing the jewelry she made in the class. She refused to sell it to them, but gave it to them, and requested that they make a donation to a charity instead.  Her designs quickly caught the eye of a merchant at Bergdorf Goodman.

According to Hornig, her jewelry is meant to be noticed and talked about because it carries the all important message that “philanthropy is beautiful, personal and worth promoting.”
