Kareen’s New York Fashion Week Diary – Saturday
Kareen Mallet, senior ready-to-wear director of Neiman Marcus, will share her perspective on each day of New York Fashion Week.
6:30 am: Good Morning. You know it’s fashion week when you wake up on a Saturday and your Blackberry has 72 new messages of new collections, shows and party invitations. Checking outside and no signs of snow. I decide to wear a 3.1 Phillip Lim skirt, chunky cable sweater from Rebecca Taylor, Theory anorak, Alexander Wang bag, Bagdley Mischka necklace and a big infinity scarf/hat.
7:30 am: My first show is at 11, so I’m taking my time. Doing a little work at home, drafting the trends so far: mixed greens, navy as the new black, lots of men’s wear, and as Cathy Horyn from the NY Times said, “a conservative attitude.” I’m reading the reviews from yesterday and repinning on Pinterest (my newest digital obsession).
10:35 am: After a breakfast en famille at Le Pain Quotidien (probably my only meal of the day!), I’m off to see Christian Cota in the Meatpacking District. It’s snowing, but fortunately it is not sticking.
11:20 am: At the Standard Hotel overlooking the Hudson River. Christian Cota went back to his roots – Mexico. All the embroideries are handmade.

1:50 pm: Private preview with Wes Gordon before the door opens. Wes has been since awake since 4 am. He explains that his collection is a little “Rooney Mara meets Great Expectations” with some Tim Burton-esque prints thrown in. He is telling us about his fun after party with burlesque dancers tonight.

3:05 pm: Waiting for the Herve Leger show to start. He shows his signature sexy bandage dresses with leather and fur harnesses and belts. The trend of fur sleeves on jackets keeps on going.

4:10 pm The line at the Empire Hotel for Rachel Zoe‘s first runway show is crazy. The girls walk to the Rolling Stones’ “Emotional Rescue” in men’s wear, fur, California bohemian dresses, feminine blouses.
All the chic-ettes at the shows are carrying the Celine bag. I want every color – time to get on the waiting list. Here is our very own Darlys Michaelis carrying her Celine.

5:35 pm: Sitting at pier 55 at Alexander Wang. Like last season, the center stage has mirrors.

The collection is showing great protective outerwear, draped dresses and knits – a very textural collection. Spotted Gisele Bundchen in the show.
5:50 pm: Quick chat with Linda Fargo to discuss trends we are seeing and going to include in the report that we draft for the BG buyers. Now off with BG’s Aja Passero, and Patrice Venditti, to rush back to Lincoln Center for Tibi.
6:45 pm: Sitting at Tibi between my Bergdorf teammates and Ariana from Tibi. She tells me how Amy (the designer behind Tibi) is rebranding Tibi.

Tibi
The collection opens with men’s wear pantsuits and features more separates than in the past. Loving the soundtrack mix of “Pump up the Volume” and Serge Gainsbourg’s “Bonnie and Clyde.”

7:40 pm: Monique Lhuillier…lots of pretty frocks, gowns and an amazing tuxedo with a jewel lapel. My new favorite model, Parisian Anais Pouliot, closes the show in a red gown. Signing off for tonight…check back with me tomorrow!
