Outwardly, the classic K-Way jacket has retained its original look since 1965. Internally, the raindrop-repelling outerwear has undergone some major evolutions. The idea for a waterproof windbreaker seemed to fall from the sky one rainy day in Paris half a century ago, as retailer Léon-Claude Duhamel watched drenched city dwellers rush through the streets toting functionally challenged umbrellas. His idea was to create a waterproof object, neither an umbrella nor raincoat, which could be conveniently carried when not in use. Duhamel developed the K-Way, a waterproof windbreaker that can be stored in a pouch tied around the waist. Demand for a new weather-resistant product was clearly high, as 250,000 K-Way jackets were sold in the first year alone.

Over the years the only thing that has changed about the packable nylon jacket is the technology stitched in its fabric. The modern day K-Way’s waterproof cotton is comprised of silicon-wrapped threads and can repel up to 1000mm of water in 24 hours.
