La Prairie education manager Andrea Ford spent hours fielding questions and sharing expertise with the Beauty Live team at NeimanMarcus.com last week. There’s a wealth of information about the ultra-luxurious Swiss skincare line because so much research goes into it.
NM: What are your two favorite La Prairie products?
AF: Cellular Radiance Emulsion SPF 30 and Cellular Cleansing Water For Eyes and Face.
NM: Is there one product within the line you cannot live without?
AF: Cellular Cleansing. I could probably use another moisturizer and eye cream if I had to, but I am in love with this cleanser. The perfect product when you’re tired at night and you just want to crawl into bed. No water, no sink, no splashing, no towel. It removes all makeup, even mascara with a sweep of the exquisite, soft cotton pad—it comes with a whole pack—and leaves your face absolutely clean. It’s a remover, cleanser and toner in one. For travel, squirt a little on a few cotton pads, place in a zip-lock bag and have a great weekend!
NM: What is the best product for a new customer to try within the line?
AF: To start seeing results right away, a good basic moisturizer is key. You will get to know the line and appreciate the difference in a short time. For entry level, I recommend Anti Aging Day Cream SPF 30 or if you prefer a lotion format, Anti-Aging Emulsion SPF 30. NM: What is happening in skincare over the next few years?
AF: In my humble opinion, the trend seems to be to create products that are catalysts that help the skin perform as it did when it was younger. It’s not so much what you add to the skin to replace what time has taken away, but how you can stimulate the skin, jump start it and get it using its own systems more effectively. It’s an amazing concept and I am in awe of the scientists who develop these formulas.
NM: What are the most important things a person can do to maintain their youthful appearance?
AF: Protect your skin from the sun and pollution; look for SPF and anti-oxidants in products. Hydration is so important to keeping the skin young on so many levels. Use a moisturizer day and night. Learn about and take advantage of the advancements in skincare; there are so many ways skin concerns can be addressed today that were not possible years ago. Smile a lot. As a sign in my dentist’s office says: A big smile is an instant face lift for everyone.
NM: What’s your philosophy toward great skincare?
AF: Find the products that work for your concerns and streamline a routine to fit your lifestyle. That way, you will continue to do it.
