NM swimwear buyer Stacy Adams packed her suitcase full of color-saturated separates, sandals and swim suits, and headed to South Beach to catch some fashion shows and sun at the hottest fashion week around the globe, Miami Swim Week. Stacy gives us a glimpse into the world of buying bikinis and even shares some of the swimwear trends she is diving into for Spring/Summer 2013.

What’s a typical day for you at Miami Swim Week?

Stacy Adams: Non stop! My day starts at 9 am. I meet my colleague in the W lobby–it’s filled with buzz and the best people watching. Then, it’s off to the convention center for appointments. You walk from booth to booth with hundreds of swim vendors surrounding you–we still can’t believe how many swim lines there are! We stop for a quick bite to eat if there is time, and then head back to the W hotel to check out swim lines in the penthouse. After seeing the collections up close, it’s time leave in time for the Raleigh Hotel where the fashion shows are held (equivalent to Lincoln Center during NYFW.) to catch some shows. Post-show it’s dinner at Bond Street to unwind and talk about everything we saw that day.

What trends did you spot?

SA: Fringe is everywhere! Neon, mixing prints, tribal, flutter bikini tops (kind of like a cut off tank top). The pin-up girl, high-waist bottom is still going strong. Pants as cover ups, maxi dresses and anything crochet.

What did you wear personally on your trip?

SA: Colored and printed jeans and neon tops. It gets cold in the convention center so I had to wear jeans, but tried to brighten it up with neon tops each day.

Did you get a chance to enjoy the beach?

SA: I walked the beach one day when we were done, but never time to just truly relax.

Eat anywhere cool?

SA: Casa Tua is my all time fave restaurants! I always hit Bond Street, and Mr. Chow’s is in our hotel so it’s always an easy spot for dinner.

What are you looking forward to wearing next season?

SA: Fringe bikinis! And can’t wait to start mixing and matching all my printed tops or bottoms with solids I already own. Mixing suits, even if they are not from same designer, is always a great way to create a new look without buying a ton of new bathing suits. I love the long tribal maxi dresses from Mara Hoffman; I want every one!

Best part of Miami swim week?

SA: The energy and how the city never stops during this week. You never know what kind of an outfit or look you’re going to see in the lobby or at a restaurant. Anything goes here!
