A Mother’s Day Salute to NM’s Mother-Daughter Duos

Walnut Creek PR manager Meghan Mino Murray and San Francisco PR manager Terri Murphy-Mino
How did you both end up working at Neiman Marcus?
Terri: In June of 2007, the PR manager from Beverly Hills said she was looking for a coordinator. I called Meghan immediately and she interviewed the following month. But prior to that I would hire Meghan to help out during big events. When she was 12 I took her to a luncheon where we were providing a fashion presentation. There were three fashion college students with us to assist, but Meghan ended up styling all the models and the students did what they were told!
Meghan: Most recently, I have come full circle and have landed back home here in Walnut Creek.
How does your step mom/daughter inspire you?
Meghan: Without Terri, I would not be where I am today. I have followed in her footsteps I am beyond thankful for her honesty, insight, support and encouragement to become a part of the NM team. I always idolized her. Her job seemed so glamorous!
Terri: Meghan loves what she does. She’s enthusiastic, inspired, willing to learn, a stickler for excellence.
What is your most cherished memory with her?
Meghan: Sitting cozy in bed, watching old movies, and flipping through fashion magazines. Fashion was a huge part of my life growing up and it was always a part of our time together.
Terri: We did this for years.
Do you have any special memories shopping together at NM?
Terri: We don’t get to shop much together but we do like many of the same things and end up wearing similar clothes without consulting each other. Shopping for her wedding dress was very special though, and I was honored to be included that day.

NM sales associate Amy Bornowski and NM assistant buyer Natalie Bornowki
How did you both end up working at Neiman Marcus?
Natalie: I began through EDP, the executive development program, in July 2011. Not long after, my mom “reinvented” herself and went back to work after 23 years of being a stay-at-home mommy. She didn’t go too far away though, because she came downtown as a sales associate to work in the same building!
How does your mom/daughter inspire you?
Natalie: First, she is the strongest woman I have ever known. She views all obstacles as productive challenges to overcome. She always sees the glass as half-full and everyone she meets is a new friend in her eyes! I have never known someone with such enthusiasm for life and sensitivity for others as my mom. Beyond this she is absolutely the most selfless and loving mother ever. I hope one day I can be at least half the mother/role model she has been for me.
Amy: When I grow up, I want to be just like Natalie! She inspires me in every way. Truly she is beautiful inside and out. A precious gift to everyone who has the opportunity to meet her.
Favorite memory about her sense of style?
Natalie: One day I “stole” some amazing velvet corduroy leggings from her closet. Little did I know that she wore these leggings when she was in the very early stages of being pregnant with me! She has this power to know what will never go out of style and I like to think I’ve inherited it.
Amy: Actually, Natalie has had amazing fashion sense her entire life. When we shop together and she puts an outfit together, or picks up anything at all, a crowd usually gathers and people want her to help them or tell them where she found the items. She is a true trendsetter.

NM executive assistant Janet Wilemon and NM beauty specialist Alisha Mizell
How did you both end up working at Neiman Marcus?
Janet: Alisha got here first! She followed a friend and co-worker to Neiman Marcus in 2004, to work with Guerlain. In 2007, I was ready to make a change, and Alisha suggested I check out NeimanMarcusCareers.com. I was blessed to find a position as an executive assistant in corporate marketing.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
Janet: It’s a pleasure to assist others and to make sure the office runs well. At Neiman Marcus I have always felt respected and appreciated, so I strive daily to return a good attitude to my co-workers. It’s great to work for a company that is so philanthropic and does so much good in the community. It makes me proud to tell others I work for Neiman Marcus.
Alisha: My favorite thing about my job, as a Kate Somerville product specialist, is when I see how happy a client is with the changes in her skin. I also love giving facials and giving customers a relaxing experience.
How does your daughter/mom inspire you?
Janet: I’ve always admired the fact that Alisha treats everyone the same and she has taught me to never, ever pre-judge anyone. Alisha can be the life of the party and make you laugh so hard you cry. Or, she can write the sweetest, most heartfelt comment in a card and make you cry too! It’s a good thing she knows where to buy the best mascara!
Alisha: She is a wonderful, uplifting lady and it has rubbed off on me. Whenever I realize someone works in her area, I ask if they know Janet Wilemon. They always light up and say she is wonderful or that they would not know how to get by without her. I am glad she is as irreplaceable to them as she is to me!
