Nicole Richie Is Just Warming Up

nicole richieNicole Richie’s apparel line may be called Winter Kate, but there’s nothing wintry about the floral-print bed jackets, maxi skirts and romantic dressses. She’ll be heating up Coral Gables, Florida with a book signing later this week.

NM: We hear you’re up for a daytime talk show. You also act, write, and you have the clothing and accessories lines….what kinds of things do you still aim to accomplish?

NR: I would love to create a lifestyle brand, which incorporates everything that I am doing right now, but I am taking it one step at a time.

NM: Whose style is inspiring to you?

NR: My mother’s.

Winter Kate, Spring 2011

NM: What was your approach to designing the spring collection?

NR: It was loosely inspired by the way my mother used to dress when I was growing up—a bit Lolita-esque, a bit sexy.

NM: How has your own sense of style changed with motherhood?

NR: I love to have fun with clothes. The way I dress is and will always be evolving. That’s the best part about fashion, it’s always changing.

NM: What are your favorite pieces from the collection?

NR: I don’t design anything that I wouldn’t wear myself, so it wold be safe to say I honestly love every piece in the collection.

NM: Do you have any design signatures?

NR: Prints. I love incorporating prints into every collection.

Nicole Richie will sign copies of her book, Priceless, at Neiman Marcus Coral Gables on Thursday, 4/28 at 2:00.
