Out of Office: Yigal Azrouel in Montauk
New York-based Yigal Azrouel launched his ultra-feminine, modern women’s wear collection in 1998, and followed up 12 years later with Cut25, a contemporary brand combining his high-fashion roots with a day-to-day simplicity. He continues to draw inspiration from everything and everywhere: art, culture, architecture, nature, New York City and the Hamptons. For this surfer the Hamptons, on the East End of Long Island, are a regular haunt and favorite escape. No wonder the inherent appeal of his collections is a carefree, chic spirit.
NM: How would you describe the Hamptons to someone who has never been?
YA: It’s like taking all your friends from New York City and dropping them on the beach. Everyone is relaxed and everyone is ready to have fun.
NM: Tell us about your ideal day there.
YA: My ideal day would start with an early morning spin class at SoulCycle. [Locations in Bridgehampton and East Hampton.] Afterwards, I would meet friends for brunch at my favorite spot, Estia’s Little Kitchen in Sag Harbour. They have a delicious roasted beet salad, which is great after a workout. My next stop is the beach to relax and catch some waves. One of my favorite reasons to go to the Hamptons is to surf.
NM: Do you have a favorite memory here?
YA: I really love spending long weekends with good friends, lots of barbeques, and time spent relaxing and surfing at the beach.
Favorites:
To do: Surf
To see: Watch surfers at Montauk Beach
To eat: Estia’s Little Kitchen in Sag Harbour
To wear: Sunglasses
NM: Don’t leave the Montauk without…?
YA: Visiting antique shops and checking out the local flea market. They change from week to week, so every time I go there is always something new.
