Neiman Marcus ready-to wear director Kareen Mallet recently visited the Paramus store and shared some secrets on how to keep your spirits bright this winter, long after the holidays are over. How? Think yellow, pink, colorful prints and pops of neon.

Kareen presented the top Resort 2012 trends in a fabulous fashion show.  The looks were fresh and fun and the message was clear – COLOR is the key this season.  While ladylike looks and ensemble dressing remain important, one must infuse color to keep it current.

Captivating looks from designers such as Chanel, Stella McCartney, Roberto Rodriguez and Sachin + Babi were very inspiring. Pink is a very of-the-moment color, as is yellow.

If you are not one to dress in a bright pink or yellow shift, fear not, just find a bright shoe or bag to complete your look.  Colorful prints are also out in full force this season.  A printed blouse is the perfect way to infuse your some fun into work attire.  And then there is neon.  Neon is best worn as an accent color this season.  Pair it with khaki, navy or grey for a modern look.  Do not wear it with black.  As Kareen clearly stated “you will look like a bad Eighties moment.”

Brighter blues are also a popular color choice this season.  The blue looks great as an accent to the multitude of graphic black-and-white looks.  The scuba influence is also big this winter.  You will find a lot of dresses and skirts made out of a Neoprene-inspired fabric, or you might find sportier looks that mimic the detailing of a scuba suit.  For those more casual days, don’t forget your colorful pants.  The colorful denim craze continues and has moved into dressier pants as well.  You won’t go wrong by adding a fab pair of green, pink, or yellow pants to your wardrobe this season.

When on the hunt for new jewelry this season, make sure to invest in a pair of statement earrings.  The oversized earring is making a big comeback and will instantly add glamour and excitement to any outfit.  If you aren’t really an earring person, you must try a statement cuff — a bit more subtle, but just as chic.  And, as Kareen reminds us, “in order to get credit for your cuff, always wear your it on the arm that is holding your handbag.”
