Runway Rewind: Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana
Gucci’s Fall 2012 women’s wear collection was short on color but rich on texture. Frida Giannini’s deep color palette – plums, navy, blacks, dark greens – paired with plush velvets, brocades, fur, and leather made for a modern romantic collection.
When Miuccia Prada rolled out a purple geometric print carpet to reveal Prada’s Fall 2012 women’s wear collection you knew bold pattern and color were to come. Although the first seven looks were solid black, the color wheel soon began to spin to offer honeycomb and diamond print tailored separates in mustards, oranges, blues and purples all embellished with gem grommets.
Sicilian Baroque served as the inspiration for Dolce and Gabbana’s Fall 2012 women’s wear collection. Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce decorated their Fall designs with golden embroideries that recall the period’s architecture and tapestries, along with elaborate florals filled with cherubs and angels representative of notable Italian artistry.
