Thakoon: Material Mashups
Thakoon Panichgul stopped by the Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills store to present his Spring 2012 collection. For the first time since the collection’s debut at New York Fashion Week, the designer promenaded his lively prints and polished silhouettes to the public. Once again Thakoon ingeniously juxtaposed two societies’ sartorial heritage – recall his Rococo-meets-Masai warrior Fall collection or more recently his Resort collection‘s modern take on folk fashion. For Spring, Thakoon merged America’s classic cowboy with the vibrancy of Bollywood. Cultures chicly collided as westernwear shirts, cowboy hats and bandana prints rode side-by-side with sari-worthy gold lamé, intricate beading and spice-infused hues.
