Theodora & Callum: Globetrotting In Style

Theodora & Callum launched this spring, right on time for a season defined by bohemian-globetrotter romance. The accessory line, featuring scarves, jewelry, shoes and bags, are all inspired by the founders’ travels—to Morocco, Bali, Turkey, India and the Mediterranean—as well as the late Sixties and early Seventies European jet set. You’ve probably already seen one the signature ethnic-print scarves on this or that actress, photographed striding through an airport or drying off on a beach. The shoes and bags, manufactured by Stuart Weitzman, also incorporate prints and patterns. Designers Stefani Greenfield, who co-founded the Scoop NYC boutiques, and entertainment executive Desiree Gruber, co-creator of Project Runway, named the line after their children. Greenfield spoke to NMdaily ahead of some upcoming visits to Neiman Marcus.

NM: Would you share some tips for looking stylish while traveling?

SG: Chic traveling is all about the accessories—things that are lightweight, multi-functional and easy to pack, but that will make even the most basic outfits look fabulously styled.  Our Tie All and Wearable Art scarves are big enough to wrap you up on the plane, and once you get to your destination, they can also be worn as pareos, shawls and so much more!

NM: More?

SG: In addition to all the different ways you can wear it as a scarf, you can also tie them as long pareos, strapless dresses, mini skirts, one shoulder dresses, and more!  Experimentation is really the key to discovering all the ways to wear them. NM: Greek key is one of your favorite design motifs. Why is it so meaningful to you?

SG: I spend a month every summer in Mykonos with my family, which I look forward to all year.  Elements of Greek design have always inspired me because they are beautiful and symbolic.  I also love evil eyes and believe they bring protection to the wearer.

NM: Where are your favorite destinations?

SG: Some of my all-time favorites are Mykonos, Malibu, Paris, London and New Orleans, where I went to college.

NM: Can you share any special anecdotes about how the prints or the jewelry are made?

SG: It all starts with inspiration!  Then we hand-design every print and hand-pick every color that goes into each scarf—not a quick or easy task, but the results are what make Theodora & Callum so different, special and collectible.
