Dallas women slipped into their highest stilettos and took a lap around the block of our flagship store for a charity last week. After the official sound-off the 200 or so strutted, sauntered and sashayed down the street in snakeskin YSL Tributes, jewel encrusted Miu Mius, glittering Christian Louboutins, neon Nicholas Kirkwoods, Brian Atwood pink pumps, striped Giuseppe Zanottis and whimsical Charlotte Olympias—to name a few. Post-strut the party continued inside the shoe department with champagne, bites and dancing. The annual event benefitted The Family Place.
Yellow, The New Neutral, goes everywhere, on everything, with everything! We at NM are wearing it to the office.

Sea of Shoes’ Jane Aldridge and, her mother, Judy Aldridge of Atlantis Home unveiled a window into their world last week at the Downtown Dallas store. The art installation referenced none other than a sea of Spring shoes and artistic sketches by Jane herself. Jane expressed witty humor with her choice of evening footwear – the Prada smoking sandal in silver. “I have a flair for the dramatic and anything exaggerated,” says Jane.

If I were to bet on the statement shoe of the season, it would be a Ruthie Davis design. Renowned for bright colors, vivid shapes and a mix of materials, coupled with towering heels and uncompromising quality, The Ruthie Davis Collection stands proudly alone. Conceived in New York and crafted in Italy, “each shoe evolves from a completely independent thought process,” says Davis. The process begins with a watercolor hand-sketch by Davis herself. She brings each sketch to Italy where she meets with a material and component supplier to detail each shoe. While she waits for the samples she heads back to New York to work on new constructions and patterns. After a few weeks she returns to Italy to finalize the design. The result is a collection of shoes that appear impossible to wear, but are “made for sharp women with places to go.”
As part of this week’s Neiman Marcus Shoe & Handbag Event, we have a Foursquare game you can play to win a Manolo Blahnik coffee-table book on the spot! Visit any Neiman Marcus store on Saturday, March 31, and check in on Foursquare. (You need to have the Foursquare app on your smartphone.) You’ll see a Foursquare Special containing instructions to seek and find the way to the book. There is one book prize per NM store. The book, Manolo’s New Shoes, was written by Blahnik with contributions from Suzy Menkes, Grace Coddington and Milena Canonero. It holds 130 of the designer’s exquisite sketches.
If you play along but don’t happen to win the book, don’t despair. While you’re in the store, you can also register to win a pair of Manolo Blahnik BB Glitter Pumps (one winner per store.) With any regular-priced Ladies Shoes or Designer Handbags purchase of $350 or more, March 29-April 1, you’ll be automatically registered to win the shoes AND you’ll receive a $50 “gift card” to be used on a future purchase. (Some limits and exclusions apply.)
If for some reason you need more shoe inspiration, check out NM’s Shoe & Handbag Book, featuring the gorgeous Paula Patton.

Paula Patton covers the Neiman Marcus Shoe & Handbag Book.
On-the-rise actress Paula Patton graces the pages of the NM Shoe & Handbag Book this season. The stunning screen siren, whom you might reconize from the most recent film chapter of Mission Impossible and the Oscar-winning film Precious, is a proud new mom with a killer figure, a dazzling smile and a talent for captivating the camera. For the spread, shot by photographer Walter Chin, Patton played the role of herself, an in-demand actress who has the confidence to wear bold color and print, carry a statement-making handbag and effortlessly brave a pair of scene-stealing, sky-high heels.
“It’s fun to get dressed up everyday, and we should do it more often,” Patton says when asked why she loves fashion. ”It’s not just for other people, it’s for yourself. It puts you in a better mood and it’s a way to express yourself artistically every day.”
When influencers from the worlds of technology, film, music and indie fashion converge upon the SXSW festival in Austin, the diverse expression of casual yet creative personal style can be dizzying. However, some clear themes emerged: bold color, denim/chambray shirts, florals and tribal prints. Booties, hats, statement handbags (including clutches for day) and loads of bracelets were the most popular accessories. We found much inspiration for spring/summer wardrobes and we can’t wait for next year! Photos by Kristen Spaulding and Jean Scheidnes.
