HOW TO DRESS FOR A WEDDING: DRESS CODE “I DO’S”

Here are six common wedding dress codes and options to wear for each:

White-tie

White-tie affairs are about as formal as weddings get. Traditionally, white-tie occasions require men to wear black tailcoats, formal white shirts, white vests, and derby or oxford shoes with finishing touches such as a white bowtie. Women don floor-length gowns, fine jewelry, evening heels, and clutches. Black-tie

Formal or black-tie optional

Slightly more relaxed than a black-tie event, men can still wear a tux if desired or opt for a well-tailored suit and tie. Women can dazzle in floor-length dresses and heels.

Cocktail

Cocktail attire allows for more creativity and is the most common dress code for modern weddings. It calls for attire that's just formal enough to deliver a stunning, well-polished look. Women can wear knee-length midi dresses, and men can dress in sophisticated suits and ties.

Semi-formal/dressy-casual

This playful dress code allows for a wide range of styles to shine. Women can wear midi-length cocktail dresses, jumpsuits, or semi-formal skirts and tops with heels or formal footwear. Men can wear blazers, dress shirts, and dignified chinos with dress shoes or loafers and an optional tie.

Casual

Casual weddings are often held outdoors, and the dress code allows guests to remain comfortable yet distinguished. Women can sport playful sundresses, while men can wear short sleeve button-ups, khakis, and loafers.
