NEIMAN MARCUS

Fashioned For

Change Criteria

Every time you choose what to wear, you have an opportunity to create change. Fashioned for Change is our ever-evolving edit of brands and products curated by standards designed to make a positive impact on people and the planet. We recognize that sustainability is a complex and dynamic topic, which is why our Fashioned for Change collection encompasses multiple categories within sustainable and ethical fashion, including some—like transparency—that you will only find at Neiman Marcus. These categories enable you to filter for products with attributes that you care about most. Wherever possible, we rely on independently recognized materials, processes, and certifications to enable you to identify products and brands that align with your values and make it easy for you to shop more consciously and sustainably.

Read on to learn more about the criteria a brand’s product must meet to be featured in the edit.

Diverse

Made by BIPOC or LGBTQ-owned brands

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are vital components in how we lead with love, and we remain committed to our goal of increasing spend with diverse-owned brands and businesses by 2025. The brands in this category are owned by creatives from underrepresented groups—including Black, Latinx, Asian, Native American, and LGBTQ—in fashion.

Gives Back

Makes an impact with each product sale

With certain purchases, your dollar can go toward supporting community causes close to your heart. Products in this category benefit both people and the planet with each purchase through the various philanthropic models outlined here.

PHILANTHROPIC MODELS INCLUDE:

  • A brand that donates a percentage or dollar amount of each purchase to charity

  • A brand matches 1 to 1 for charity

  • A brand is a member of One Percent for the Planet

  • A brand is a Certified B corporation

Pre-owned

Extraordinary vintage and estate treasures made to last for generations

Shopping pre-owned supports a more circular economy by reducing the demand for new raw materials and energy-intensive manufacturing processes while preserving timeless craftsmanship. Products in this category include estate jewelry and vintage watches specially curated by NM’s fashion experts.

Sustainable Materials

Contain at least 40% sustainable, circular, or vegan materials

Material production and processing comprises the largest part of a product’s carbon footprint, so transitioning your favorite pieces to products made with sustainable materials is one of the key ways to fight climate change. Responsibly Manufactured

Made in factories run by those who go above and beyond to protect their employees and our planet

Where and how a product is made is plays a vital role in its environmental and social impact. Responsibly manufactured products are made in factories run by those who go above and beyond to protect their employees and our planet by going above and beyond a standard supplier audit to implement a certification program that empowers workers, ensures fair wages, and prioritizes responsible chemicals and resource use.
