C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries at Neiman Marcus
Founded in 1838 in Greenwich Village, New York pharmacy C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries is an institution. First an apothecary-pharmacy, later adding a soda fountain, the original location still stands and is the oldest surviving apothecary in the United States. This rich history is dotted with legends, including visits from storied names throughout the years and a balm that soothed the burnt fingers of Thomas Edison while he prototyped the light bulb. This rich history informs the line of C.O. Bigelow products, from formulations to their distinctive labels printed with an old-world charm that calls back to their beginnings. Harkening back to a time when pharmacies were based around personalized attention, customized formulas, and natural preparations, C.O. Bigelow has been passed down through family to this day. Current owner Ian Ginsberg has dug through the pharmacy’s archives, discovering hand-written formulary books from days gone by that serve not only as a slice of family history, but a window into the New York that once was. It’s these formula recipes, at the time developed for individual customers of the apothecary, that inspire Bigelow’s offerings today — some even recreated from the originals. These tried-and-true recipes are combined with modern technologies to create C.O. Bigelow hand wash, lip balms, salves, lotions, and other products that inspire devoted fans who keep coming back. Shop C.O. Bigelow bath and body at Neiman Marcus and you may just become one of those devoted fans yourself.
